Chapter 4

How strange. Lu Qinian was apologizing to me, so why was my heart beating even faster?

Before I could work it out, the voice in my head erupted.

【You’re not allowed to think about it!】

【He isn’t yours! He’s not!】

The image of my rejected confession and public humiliation appeared again.

I sat in bed, watched it through, and sighed.

“Tell me. Why doesn’t Lu Qinian like me?”

The woman repeated the same answer three times.

【He’s the male lead.】

Then she delivered her conclusion.

【That’s why you don’t deserve him.】

I still did not understand.

“He’s excellent, but I’m not bad either. We attend the same university. My intelligence and effort combined must count for something.”

“I’m reasonably attractive, and my family is well-off. I’ve never done anything evil. I even donate whatever money I have left at the end of each month. Why don’t I deserve him?”

Perhaps my sudden softness caught her off guard. This time, she answered without ridicule.

Before getting out of bed, I gave myself 180 pep talks.

By the time my mind caught up, I was already standing in front of Lu Qinian.

I tried to run, but Lu Qinian easily blocked my path.

His eyes shifted, bright with laughter.

He leaned close and murmured beside my ear.

My eyes widened.

How could Lu Qinian, always so honorable and proper, say something like that?

Was he flirting with me?

I screamed inwardly at the woman in my head.

“You’re a liar! He does like me!”

The woman shrieked repeatedly and forced me to watch that video again.

I simply closed my eyes.

Unless I heard Lu Qinian say he did not like me with his own mouth, I would never let this go.

“Lu Qinian, do you like me?”

Warmth brushed my lips, then vanished just as quickly.

I stared at him in disbelief.

His voice was earnest and gentle.

“Yes, Chen Youxi. I like you.”

“I’ve liked you for a long time.”

“I wasn’t rejecting you yesterday. I wanted the sober you to have the choice.”

Fireworks exploded across my entire world. My mind rang, and my heart thundered.

Like an effervescent tablet dropped into water, bubbles of delight flooded upward until joy filled every part of me.

“I knew it.”

“Waaah! Hug me!”

He wrapped his arms around me from behind and held me tight.

I could hear his frantic heartbeat.

“Your heart is beating so fast.”

Lu Qinian lowered his eyes. His lashes fluttered nervously.

“Because I want to ask whether you’ll be my girlfriend.”

“I’m a little nervous.”

I hugged him back and ran a hand over his waist.

Oh, yes. What a waist.

Definitely the body of someone who exercised regularly.

Lu Qinian instantly went rigid. At a loss, he caught my hand.

“Youyou, stop fooling around.”

I buried my face against his chest, hiding my overexcited and slightly unhinged grin.

Yes, yes, yes. I knew I had chosen well.

A top-tier mother-hen boyfriend.

“I’ll say yes, so don’t be nervous.”

“Baby.”

I looked up. Lu Qinian’s blush stretched all the way to his ears.

His heart beat faster still.

“Thank you for choosing me.”
