Chapter 4

Yep. I had definitely overthought it.

This friend was a guy.

Right now, two handsome men over 185 centimeters tall were standing side by side in front of me. Their height and aura were so similar it was like someone had copied and pasted them, and the sight practically made me dizzy.

Not that either of them had any attention to spare for me. The moment Lou He’s friend came through the door, he didn’t even say hello before dragging Lou He away. The two of them talked quietly downstairs for a long time.

I wanted so badly to eavesdrop on their conversation. Damn it!

After they chatted for a while, though, Lou He seemed to step outside for a smoke. The handsome guy downstairs waved at me.

“Me?”

“Yes, Madam Lou. It’s about Lou He’s condition.”

“Coming!”

I scampered downstairs with impressive efficiency and eagerly refilled his tea. “Madam Lou is way too formal. My name is Bian Lan. You can call me Xiao Lan too.”

“All right, Xiao Lan.”

Although this handsome guy was roughly the same type as Lou He, he was clearly gentler and softer. He had a deep dimple on each side of his mouth, and when he smiled, he looked incredibly sweet.

A classic gap-moe hottie. No question about it.

As we chatted, I learned that his surname was Yu and that his family had practiced medicine for three generations. A proper medical lineage. My favorable impression of him instantly skyrocketed.

“Shall we add each other on WeChat? That way, if there are any changes in Lou He’s condition, I can contact you anytime.”

“Sure.”

After we added each other as friends, he turned on a recorder and began asking questions.

“How long has he been like this?”

“Not long. About a week. It started the day before we were going to get divorced.”

“Divorced?”

“Mm. Lou He doesn’t like me.”

“He doesn’t like you?”

He seemed extremely shocked. He even repeated those words to himself several times, then took out a small notebook and began recording them with particular emphasis.

“By the way, where is Auntie? I remember Lou He also has a younger sister.”

“They went traveling and still haven’t come back.”

“Oh, I see.”

“Before the car accident, he treated me, his mother, and his sister the same way-coldly. After the accident, his memory was a little impaired, but there hasn’t been much difference in the way he deals with people.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“It hasn’t affected his work either. Oh, right, he’s in the startup phase, so he’s definitely been under a lot of mental strain and anxiety.”

We discussed Lou He’s issues for half an hour. Watching Dr. Yu’s expression grow increasingly grave made me nervous too.

According to him, this kind of delirium caused by the combined effects of severe impact and anxiety might resolve on its own after a while-or it might never get better for the rest of his life.

“Then should he go to the hospital for a checkup? It’d be more systematic and authoritative, right?”

“Not for now. Observe him for a while first, and contact me anytime if the course of his condition changes.”

“…All right.”

After seeing Dr. Yu out, I was sitting on the sofa in a daze when a shadow suddenly loomed over me.

I jumped in fright. The words on the tip of my tongue took a sharp turn.

“Lou… baby?”

“You told him to call you Xiao Lan?”

I stared blankly. “What’s wrong with that?”

“You’ve never let me call you Xiao Lan.”

Uh.

“You’ve never taken the initiative to add me on WeChat either.”

Uh.

His face darkened. Then he turned and headed upstairs, his retreating back looking unbelievably heartless.

I hurriedly chased after him.

The man who had been sleeping in a separate room from me for the past six months was standing there with a pillow in his arms when I blocked him at the top of the stairs.

“The two of...
