Chapter 1

As a matter of fact, the child wasn’t my official boyfriend’s.

At the time, Yu Bixue and I had been dating smoothly for two years. We were just about to start talking marriage-the wedding dress had already been bought-when he suddenly began acting lukewarm toward me.

If it had only been a drifting attitude, that would’ve been one thing. I was busy with work anyway, and if he didn’t come looking for me, it saved me the trouble. But he should never, ever have let me catch him red-handed at our class reunion-with Tan Xi, my close friend and bestie of many years, no less.

It happened four months ago.

Even now, I still remember the way he chased me all the way into the hallway, so anxious his forehead was slick with sweat.

“It was just Truth or Dare. I lost and was only playing along for the occasion. Xiao Ruo, aren’t you being a little too dramatic?”

I laughed right then. “You could’ve done that with anyone else. Why did it have to be Tan Xi sitting on your lap?”

To be honest, even if it had been some hostess sitting on his lap, I could have swallowed it calmly. After all, with his family background and looks, it was impossible that no one would throw themselves at him.

But he never should have gotten tangled up with Tan Xi.

From the way he was suddenly tongue-tied yet still self-righteous, I seemed to glimpse a kind of excitement at daring to pierce that paper-thin veil, a kind of shameless openness that took pride instead of disgrace, a reckless satisfaction that if the pot was already broken, then no one else should have an easy time either.

Just then, Tan Xi’s pale little face appeared behind the door, her anxious eyes darting back and forth between the two of us.

“Xiao Ruo, we really were just playing a game. All our old classmates are here. If there really was something going on, we wouldn’t do it in front of so many people…”

“Tan Xi, spare me.”

She immediately shut her mouth, her expression growing even uglier. A few indistinct faces quickly crowded in behind her, all of them united in righteous indignation as they accused me.

“Everyone was just messing around. Ruoqiang, you’re going too far.”

“You’ve never played Truth or Dare before? Making a scene like this at a class reunion-where is Ah Bi supposed to put his face?”

“Exactly. Say a few words and let it go. Don’t overdo it!”

Absolutely fucking incredible.

My best friend was sitting on my fiancé’s lap, flirting and fooling around, yet somehow I was the one going too far?

Yu Bixue seemed surprised that so many people were backing him at once. Seeing my expression shift, he seemed to come back to himself and gradually lowered his voice to explain, “Besides, she was the one who insisted on sitting there. How can you blame me for that?”

At that, I gave him a thumbs-up.

“Nice. You’re really something.”

Then I smiled at Tan Xi behind him, whose face had flushed a purplish red. “Looks like even when a fairy descends to the mortal world, her taste isn’t much different from the rest of us ordinary people.”

“Acting like this, are you really not letting down that white moonlight in your heart?”
