Chapter 3
Chapter 3
My thoughts were a tangled mess.
When your brain refused to stop working, sleep had no interest in paying a visit.
When Sheng Zhuoran’s messages came in, I was on my bed doing a kneeling forward stretch.
He sent several videos in a row and asked me:
[Yu Buxun, you two are about to get married. What the hell is he doing? Aren’t you going to do something about him?]
I opened the videos. Neon lights, flowing wine, clinking glasses.
In a private club, Gu Jinzhi was sunk into a sofa with a gloomy expression, several buttons of his shirt casually undone at the chest.
The hostess beside him smiled and coaxed him for quite a while before he finally lifted the corner of his mouth.
“Young Master Gu, it’s been so long since you last came. Aren’t you going to drink a little more?”
“Exactly. You haven’t visited us in years. You have to open a few more bottles tonight.”
Gu Jinzhi raised his eyes and looked the hostess over with leisurely interest. “That depends on whether you have the ability.”
I swiped down. In the second video, a blonde hostess held a mouthful of wine, half-kneeling on the sofa as she leaned in toward Gu Jinzhi.
Waves of cheering rose around them.
“Young Master Gu!”
“Young Master Gu!”
“Young Master Gu!”
…
I watched as Gu Jinzhi leaned forward amid the chanting, taking the wine the girl fed him mouth-to-mouth, sip by sip.
Once the wine was gone, he still seemed unsatisfied. He grabbed the girl’s face and sucked and bit hard at her lips.
I scrolled farther down. I didn’t know what had happened, but Gu Jinzhi looked furious in the video.
“If she won’t, plenty of women will!”
After saying that, he took the blonde girl by the hand and walked into the restroom of the club’s private room. Everyone at the scene wore different expressions.
[This is way too much. I’ll stop him. Get over here, quick.]
I turned off my phone.
In the darkness, it was so quiet I could only hear my own breathing.
I remembered when Gu Jinzhi and I had just made our relationship official, and he invited me to a dinner gathering.
That was the first time he brought me to meet his friends.
Before we went, I watched him type in the group chat, delete it, type again, and draft several versions of a “Meeting Etiquette Guide.”
The moment I appeared, the room erupted in teasing.
“Young Master Gu brings you up at every gathering. Three years, and we finally get to see the real person.”
“No wonder she’s the real sister-in-law. That aura is incredible!”
“Sister-in-law, Young Master Gu only listens to you. Please make him bully me less from now on.”
Some people enthusiastically shipped us on the spot, while others drank too much and let slip things they shouldn’t have.
“Wonder how many days you’ll be able to keep him tied down. His last relationship only lasted three days, and the one before that was only eight hours. Yu… Miss Yu…”
The red-haired man, his tongue thick from alcohol, had his mouth covered before he could finish.
That day, I received an emergency call and left early.
I heard that after the gathering ended, Gu Jinzhi beat Red Hair until his face was bruised and swollen, the same color as his hair.
Because Gu Jinzhi had hit him too hard, the group had to carry that red-haired man to the hospital.
That was the first and last time I ever saw him.
After Gu Jinzhi came back, he swore to me over and over again.
“Buxun, I really was unreliable before, and my reputation wasn’t great. But don’t worry, I’ve changed. You’re different from everyone else. I’m absolutely serious about you, and it will last.”
He half-knelt on the floor, solemnly holding up three fingers.
His expression was anxious, and his clenched fist trembled without him realizing it.
I smiled and helped him up.
He was making a fuss over nothing.
It was just dating, after all.
