Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The moment I walked into the research institute, Uncle Liu at the entrance asked me as naturally as ever, “Working overtime again? Mr. Gu didn’t come to pick you up?”
Four years ago, Gu Jinzhi had started pursuing me and become a regular at the institute.
Everyone had long since gotten used to his presence.
All at once, I thought of what I had just heard Gu Jinzhi say outside the private room.
“I just think there’s no need to keep putting her on a pedestal all the time.”
“Other women know how to lower themselves and be sweet. Why can’t she?”
I nodded. “I drove today. I’m planning to go upstairs and take another look at my graduate students’ papers.”
Uncle Liu smiled in understanding.
He was probably thinking of the few students in the building who were having trouble graduating.
A colleague passing by sounded puzzled. “Now that’s rare. Ever since that certain someone got promoted to official status, I hardly ever see you staying late. No one nagging you today?”
“Graduation season.”
My colleague smiled again and shook his head self-deprecatingly.
Thinking of the few kids under him whose publications weren’t going smoothly, he left with a gloomy look.
My students were different.
There was nothing really wrong with their papers. I just wanted them to be better.
And while I was at it, I wanted some quiet.
By the time I got home, it was already one in the morning.
Before my hand even touched the light switch, someone scooped me up by the waist.
Gu Jinzhi trapped me against the corner of the wall. The smell of alcohol rushed over me, so strong I instinctively turned my head to avoid it.
“Why didn’t you come pick me up?”
His tone was aggrieved, deliberately edged with a sob.
He locked his arms around my waist and pulled me toward him.
His posture was more forceful than usual.
“The rain was too heavy.”
The road was too far. Walking alone would have taken a long time.
His lips brushed against my ear, whether intentionally or not.
In the dark, the space between our bodies, once sealed tight, soon rose into a hard barrier.
“I remember you’re a good driver. What’s a little rain to be afraid of?”
Then he kissed me, hot and domineering.
My reason fell apart, and I sank into the pleasure of my body.
By the time I came back to myself, Gu Jinzhi and I had already stripped off our clothes and fallen onto the bed.
He pulled me up and made me straddle him on my knees.
“You do it.”
Gu Jinzhi had a service-oriented personality.
After we got together, he had always been diligent in bed. At one point, I even suspected he had gone to some club for advanced training.
There was one thing he often said.
“Buxun, leave everything to me. I’ll make you happy.”
I had never ordered a male escort, but I imagined they probably couldn’t be much better than Gu Jinzhi.
Me, take the lead?
It wasn’t impossible.
I looked at him, from his powerful thigh muscles to his eight-pack abs, then to his broad shoulders and narrow waist, and finally to the way he stared straight at me.
In his black eyes was the desire to tame, certain of victory, like he was watching isolated prey.
Arrogant and contemptuous.
All at once, I lost interest.
I got out of bed and headed for the bathroom.
“Forget it. I’m too tired today.”
When I came back wrapped in a bathrobe, Gu Jinzhi was still in the same position.
Seeing me approach, he jerked his hips in a fit of pique, then sucked in a sharp breath from the pain he caused himself.
“You can’t do it for me, just this once?”
The buzzing hair dryer picked up where he left off.
When Gu Jinzhi saw that I had no response at all, he silently got up, put on his clothes, and left.
It was the first time since we had met that he left me standing there alone.
