Chapter 14
The severed heads rolled across the ground.
Passerby’s head happened to stop beside Mo Xiaowei’s leg.
His face was twisted in terror, as though he had witnessed something inconceivable in the instant before his death.
Soft footsteps crossed the earth, approaching her.
Faint as they were, the sounds seemed magnified countless times in Mo Xiaowei’s ears.
They were the footsteps of a devil coming for her.
“Stay away! Ahhh! Stay away from me!” she shrieked, flailing her arms.
In the face of death, the young woman who had grown up spoiled by her entire sect completely forgot that she was a cultivator.
“Someone save me! Save me! I don’t want to die! Ahhh!”
Xia Mo tilted its head.
What was wrong with this crazy woman?
It had only come over to collect the spatial pouches from this heap of trash.
Not far away, Yu Tai crouched with her chin propped in one hand, enjoying Mo Xiaowei’s disgrace. The demonic qi she had used to kill the cultivators had already returned to her body, where the righteous qi suppressed it perfectly.
Yu Tai used the chain to drag Shu Li over, poked him in the arm, and smiled teasingly.
“Look, Senior Brother. They’re all dead.”
When he said nothing, she continued without taking offense. “I killed every last one of your hopes. Are you heartbroken?”
At Yu Tai’s description of those people as his “hopes,” Shu Li finally reacted.
“Hopes?”
He chuckled, his voice as intoxicating as ever. “Did I ever tell Junior Sister that they were my hope?”
Yu Tai arched a brow. “Weren’t you counting on them to kill me and take you away?”
Shu Li countered, “Did Junior Sister hear me say that?”
Yu Tai sneered. “What? Are you playing word games with me, Senior Brother?”
He cupped his hands with effortless grace. “I would not dare.”
Yu Tai grew angry.
His reaction made it seem as though she were the one behaving unreasonably.
She grabbed Shu Li’s wrist roughly, drew a knife from her spatial pouch, and shoved it into his hand. Then she dragged him toward Mo Xiaowei, who sat clutching her head, the lower half of her body soaked and reeking of urine.
Yu Tai frowned at the sight. “Useless.”
This piece of trash had collapsed before she could even summon the courage to fight. Killing her would only dirty Yu Tai’s hands.
“Senior Brother,” Yu Tai murmured gently. “Didn’t she say you wanted to leave with her?”
Her voice turned sweet. “Since I refuse to let you go and you can’t leave, why don’t you personally send her on her way?”
She clasped the hand holding Shu Li’s knife and moved it closer to Mo Xiaowei.
“No! Ahhh!”
Having lost all reason, Mo Xiaowei screamed again when someone approached. She tried to drag her limp body backward.
Yu Tai looked at her helplessly. “If you keep crawling around, how is my Senior Brother supposed to kill you?”
As the words left her mouth, Yu Tai drew a thread of demonic qi from her body, wrapped it around one finger, and slashed casually.
Mo Xiaowei’s arms fell away at once, the cuts perfectly clean.
“Ahhh!”
Experiencing true pain for the first time in her life, Mo Xiaowei unleashed an ear-piercing scream.
“You’ll die horribly! You’ll die horribly! Bitch! You filthy bitch!” Completely deranged, she screamed at Yu Tai, her eyes filled with hatred and terror.
Through Mo Xiaowei’s suffering and Yu Tai’s cruelty, Shu Li did not say a single word.
But when Yu Tai pulled him closer to Mo Xiaowei, Shu Li stopped her with his other hand.
“Junior Sister, that is enough.”
Yu Tai did not seem surprised. “What? Do you feel sorry for her?”
Shu Li shook his head. “The people who wanted to kill Junior Sister are already dead. She is the daughter of the Chengtian Sect’s sect leader, so her soul lamp is naturally different from theirs. The final images she sees before death will be transmitted back to it.”
Yu Tai demanded, [Why didn’t you remind me of something so important?]
[You didn’t ask, Host! Waaah,] the System replied.
Yu Tai relaxed her grip. The moment Shu Li tried to withdraw his hand, she caught his wrist again and smiled radiantly.
“So Senior Brother was worried about me. Your Junior Sister misunderstood you.”
Shu Li nodded magnanimously. “Junior Sister should simply be more careful next time.”
Yu Tai was speechless.
Had this bastard become even more shameless?
While the two spoke, Mo Xiaowei, who had been curled on the ground, suddenly sharpened her gaze. At some point, she had taken out her jade token. She kicked it upward with one foot, wriggled close enough to catch it in her mouth, and bit down until it shattered.
She closed her eyes and relaxed. Venomous hatred filled her heart.
Once she escaped, she would have Father cut off that bitch’s hands and feet, pull every tooth from her mouth, and throw her into the cheapest brothel in the mortal world. Yu Tai would live on in humiliation and agony!
The thought drew a delighted laugh from her lips.
Several seconds passed.
Nothing around her changed.
Mo Xiaowei’s eyes widened as realization dawned.
The jade token did not work?
How was that possible!? Hadn’t the elder said crushing it would let them leave!?
How could it fail? How could it fail? Why? Why was this happening?
She chewed frantically on the fragments in her mouth. Broken jade sliced her cheeks and tongue, drawing blood, but she seemed unable to feel it. Panic and agitation consumed her.
Yu Tai noticed the movement and remarked lightly, “Your Senior Brothers already tested that for you. The Bishui Secret Realm malfunctioned as we entered. It’s only natural that the jade tokens no longer work, isn’t it?”
Those few words extinguished Mo Xiaowei’s final hope.
Yu Tai released Shu Li and walked over.
She could not kill Mo Xiaowei, but she could not let her go either. This woman knew everything that had happened.
[What method can a Nascent Soul demonic cultivator use to erase her memory?]
Since her host’s life was at stake, and to make up for its earlier mistake, the System answered honestly.
Yu Tai understood. Demonic qi spilled from her fingertip once more and lunged at Mo Xiaowei with bared fangs.
“No-” Mo Xiaowei screamed in terror, but the sound stopped abruptly as the demonic qi entered her mind.
Mo Xiaowei lay on the ground with a vacant smile tugging at her lips, plainly reduced to an idiot. Satisfied, Yu Tai put away Xia Mo, which was rummaging through all the spatial pouches it had collected, then pulled Shu Li away.
As she turned, she failed to notice the fingers of the seemingly harmless Shu Li curl at her side.
A thread of black qi shining with bloody scarlet light flew silently toward Mo Xiaowei and pierced her heart with ruthless precision.
At the Chengtian Sect-
An old man’s eyes snapped open. He coughed up a mouthful of blood and roared, his eyes nearly splitting with rage.
“Xiaowei!”
Mo Xiaowei’s soul lamp went out, and the images from her final moments returned with it.
