Chapter 5

Late that night, I had another dream.

This time, there was no sister in it, and no Li Xinglan either. There was only Li Xinghe, driving alone down a pitch-black road. The dim, murky streetlights spilled through the car window, draping a hazy glow over his refined, handsome face.

Those eyes were the color of sky and sea. The color of night. The color of the devil.

Deep and dazed.

Mysterious and wild.

If this had been real life, I would have had to throw out at least a few shameless lines.

Unfortunately, it was a dream. Just as I was mulling over what to say, the expression of the man before me changed. And the me in the dream followed his gaze and looked ahead-

Up ahead was a scene straight out of a disaster blockbuster. A dump truck on the left seemed to lose control and suddenly veered right, slamming into the urban SUV in front of it and sending it flying. The R8 behind it seemed to lose control as well, getting completely dragged beneath the wheels of the car in front!

Like seawater surging backward, like day and night turning upside down, that apocalyptic spectacle flashed before my eyes.

In a single instant, three cars collided.

Amid blood and fire, Li Xinghe looked in my direction one last time. His dark eyes were filled with glistening tears, and his pale lips trembled as if he wanted to say something to me…

And then I woke up.

The dream had been far too real.

So after being startled awake in the latter half of the night, I couldn’t fall asleep again. I simply lay there with my eyes wide open until dawn.

The book Li Xinglan had sent over was still on my nightstand. I opened it and found dense red underlines everywhere, making it rather difficult to read. On the title page, there was also a strikingly long excerpted quote.

Wasn’t that a little too dramatic?

As an old-money family long established in Wen City, the Li Family had already produced someone as outstanding as Li Xinglan. On the surface, he was gentle and restrained; in truth, refined self-interest ran in his bones.

His younger brother, Xinghe, was the complete opposite: calm, yet mad.

Maybe it was because I was naturally a terrible student, but I’d always had very little resistance to this kind of high-IQ, artsy type at first glance. As for his personality, though…

I felt a little hesitant.

I got out of bed and stood in front of the full-length mirror, staring blankly at myself for quite a while.

The thick, blunt-cut bangs I used to have had already been decisively trimmed away by Tony, revealing a full, luminous forehead. I had gently arched brows like falling stars, a delicate pointed oval face, and most striking of all, a pair of slightly pouty red lips.

A petal-like lip shape, with just the right depth of color.

There was no reason…

With a face like this, there was no reason for both of them to look down on me!
