Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The gifts for my return visit to my maiden home had been prepared in abundance.
When Fu Huai came to pick me up, there were dark shadows beneath his eyes, and a faint trace of guilt in them as well.
Last night, Shen Ru and Linglong must have tormented him to no end.
As for me, my complexion was rosy and my eyes were bright.
Putting on a false show of concern, I asked, “Husband, you don’t look well. Did you not sleep well last night?”
Fu Huai took my hand and sighed softly. “My wife is still the one who gives me peace of mind.”
Peace of mind?
No…
I was going to turn the Duke’s Mansion upside down.
How could he possibly know that I was the one who had stirred everything up?
After we boarded the carriage for my return visit, Fu Huai brought up a matter. “My wife, the inner household is currently being managed by Linglong. Do you feel wronged by that?”
I shook my head with a faint smile, looking at Fu Huai as though I were looking at a fool.
What noble family allowed a concubine to manage the affairs of the inner household?
The old madam had deliberately handed power to Linglong precisely to suppress me.
I said with feigned sincerity, “Linglong is Mother’s adopted daughter. Even if she was born a household servant, she is still different from ordinary concubines. You spent so many years away at war, and it was Linglong who stayed by Mother’s side all along. Linglong deserves credit for that. It is only natural for her to oversee the household accounts. Why would I feel wronged?”
Fu Huai looked gratified. He took my hand and rubbed it in his palm. “With a wife like this, what more could a husband ask for?”
I lowered my eyes, looking dejected. “Husband and I should never have had this fate to begin with.”
Fu Huai understood the meaning behind my words and coaxed me, “Though you got into the wrong bridal sedan, what is done is done. I will treat you well, so don’t overthink it anymore.”
Treat me well?
How laughable. Did I need him to treat me well?
When we arrived at Chu Manor, my elder sister and Wen Sheng had already arrived ahead of us.
I deliberately looked at Wen Sheng a few extra times.
Fu Huai instinctively tightened his grip on my hand.
Father and Mother had already accepted the matter of the wrong bridal sedans, but they still did not know that my sister and I had orchestrated it all on purpose.
Fortunately, on the surface, my sister and I both appeared very satisfied with our current situations.
During the banquet, Wen Sheng never dared to look at me. That was very much in line with his character. He had always been this way-whoever he married, he would treat her well.
In my previous life, he and I could be considered respectful toward each other, but to me, those days had truly been dreadfully dull.
Fu Huai kept placing food into my bowl from time to time, appearing extremely attentive and considerate. My elder sister was slightly surprised.
After the feast, my sister and I spoke alone.
“Second Sister, in our previous life, Fu Huai favored his concubines and neglected his wife. He never once gave me a kind face. Why is he treating you so differently?”
I smiled mysteriously and said only, “Because he’s cheap.”
My sister: “…”
In our previous life, before my sister was married off, she had once carried a heart full of passion. She, too, had been a young girl yearning for love, and naturally she had fallen for the imposing, valiant general.
But Fu Huai did not recognize a true heart when it was offered to him.
Instead, he happened to like my false affection and empty pretense.
I asked, “Elder Sister, have you and Brother-in-law consummated the marriage?”
A blush flew across my sister’s cheeks, and she shook her head shyly. “Not yet. But Husband treats me very well.”
I rolled my eyes.
In my previous life, Wen Sheng dawdled for a full month before finally setting aside his shyness. Now that my sister had gotten into the wrong bridal sedan, he would be even more timid and restrained.
I suggested, “Elder Sister, why not be a little more proactive? Wen Sheng has no other women, and he is an utter blockhead.”
My sister was so embarrassed she did not know what to do.
With a temperament like hers, it was no wonder she had been tormented to death by the Duke’s Mansion in her last life.
So, as they say, every trade has its specialist-and marriage is no different.

The Scheming Beauty: Bad Seed
I was never born to be harmless.
At three, I stabbed the young master next door in the eye with a hairpin, simply because he had peeped at my mother while she was bathing.
At five, I...
