I crouched outside the library the second female lead visited every day, lurking like a thief.
Before long, a cool and aloof-looking girl emerged with an armful of books.
My eyes lit up. “Holy crap! That is the wife destiny made for me!”
Without another thought, I launched myself at her like a guided missile.
Just before impact, she kicked me into the air.
I sailed through a glorious parabolic arc and landed in a bush.
Me: “?”
There I lay among the leaves, small, helpless, and weak.
The second female lead gave me one frosty glance, then walked away without a word.
…
So she was the fierce type.
I curled my lips into a wicked smile.
Woman, you have successfully caught my attention.
Undeterred, I climbed out, dusted myself off, and raced to the cafeteria to engineer another encounter.
She had just found a seat and was about to enjoy her meal when I appeared across from her holding a cup of mango juice.
I flashed her a perfect eight-toothed smile.
“Hi! This mango juice is for—”
“Sorry,” she cut in mildly. “I’m allergic to mangoes.”
While I racked my brain for a way to salvage the situation, she efficiently cleared her tray and rose to leave.
I instinctively caught her hand.
“Wifey, why do you hate me so much?”
She looked at me as if I were intellectually impaired.
Perhaps the heartrending sincerity of that “wifey” moved her. After thinking for a few seconds, she sat back down.
She came straight to the point.
“Player, you only approached me because you’re trying to win over the male lead, right?”
Her words made me jump.
“You…”
Her face remained expressionless.
“I’m not interested in the male lead, so you can pursue him without worrying about me.
“Would you please stop bothering me? Whatever happens between you players and the male lead has nothing to do with me.
“All I want is to do serious academic work in this world.”
Several thick theory books sat beside her, silent proof of her dedication and diligence.
I hurried to explain.
“No! The person I actually want to win over is—”
A shrill alarm suddenly blared inside my head.
The System: “You are forbidden from revealing the truth to your target!”
The sound stabbed through my skull. Under her startled gaze, I clapped my hands over my ears and crouched down in agony.
Even after the alarm stopped, I stayed there.
Partly because my brain was still buzzing, and partly because this was mortifying.
How could I let my future wife see me in such a pathetic state? TAT
She sighed, walked over, and held out a hand.
“You’re the weakest player I’ve ever met.”
I looked up in surprise. For the first time, I saw something on her face besides indifference.
Her voice softened.
“Let’s coexist peacefully. On one condition: you can’t hurt me for the male lead’s sake.”
I nodded vigorously and took her hand to stand. Her palm was so soft and warm that I never wanted to let go.
