Chapter 2
“Huh?”
I froze for a second.
Song Fuling arched an eyebrow.
Her expression clearly said, “Just as I thought.”
Then she reached out and smacked my shoulder hard.
“That bastard’s got a rotten temper and an even nastier mouth. Still, his face does look pretty damn kissab-”
She stopped herself and immediately changed her wording.
“Ahem. I mean, he looks pretty kissable.
“Since you don’t mind, then as his dad, I’ll do a good deed.
“I’ll be your love strategist and make sure you win him over.”
I took a step back.
“You really don’t have to…”
“What do you mean, I don’t have to? With me here, what are you worried about?
“Just do what I say and go after him already.”
Song Fuling cut me off on the spot.
Before I could refuse, her fingers were already flying across her screen.
Ding.
My phone vibrated, and a WeChat contact card popped up.
“Don’t worry.
“We’re not the kind of vaguely ambiguous childhood-sweetheart pair you get in novels.
“To be more exact, we’re sworn enemies. The kind who couldn’t stand each other since we were little.
“We’re absolutely, completely innocent.”
She waved a hand.
By then, she’d already skipped over to the stairwell.
Her voice echoed through the hallway:
“I sent him to you! Remember to add him! You have to add him!
“I’m off to return clothes to my good son.
“I won’t be back tonight!”
As soon as I got back to the dorm, Song Fuling’s messages started popping up one after another.
[Don’t be fooled by that playboy face of his.
[He’s a bona fide rich young master.
[Not only is he loaded, he’s got a huge temper too, and next to no patience for outsiders.
[It’s only for my sake that he restrains himself a little.
[You just met him, so when you’re pursuing him, make sure to go along with him.
[Once you add him, take the initiative and say hi.
[When you eat together, insist on splitting the bill. Don’t let him think you’re after his money.
[Also, he hates clingy girls more than anything.
[You’re usually so soft-spoken and hesitant, so remember to fix that.
[Don’t go making him mad and getting yourself blocked, only for me to have to coax him into forgiving you.
[Oh right. Did you add him yet?]
I stared at the contact card.
I didn’t send a request.
I thought of the familiarity that Song Fuling couldn’t hide whenever she talked about him.
I pressed my lips together.
Pei Yanci really was exactly my type.
But Fuling had always been straightforward and carefree, hopelessly slow when it came to feelings.
She probably hadn’t noticed the animation in her face whenever she talked about Pei Yanci, or the obvious possessiveness in it.
How could a shallow crush matter more than a roommate I’d spent every day with?
I carefully considered how to phrase it.
I was about to send a thank-you red packet and politely turn down Fuling’s kind offer to be my strategist.
Then the dorm door was suddenly knocked on.
Two or three girls squeezed their way in.
They were the ones who usually hung around with Song Fuling.
“Is Fuling here?”
“She went out.”
“Oh~”
The girl in front drew out the sound.
But her eyes swept over me from head to toe.
The other two exchanged a look, their shoulders shaking as they poked each other’s arms.
They lowered their voices, and I could only make out half of it.
“Is it her?”
“It’s her.”
“Ohhh-”
They covered their mouths and laughed.
Their eyes were full of meaning.
Like they were watching some kind of joke.
“We’ll come find Fuling another day, then.”
“Sorry to bother you.”
Still giggling, they backed out.
The door closed.
A few bursts of barely suppressed laughter immediately broke out in the hallway.
I could vaguely make out a few words:
“…clown…”
“…so pathetic…”
“…seriously that bold…”
“…doesn’t even know her own…”
I frowned.
A strange sense of discomfort rose in me.
I was just about to chase after them and demand an explanation.
Then the algorithm suddenly pushed a post to me.
The profile picture was half a poria emoji.
The ID was “Fuling Is Not Medicine.”
[My good son and I have been fighting since we were kids.
[Recently, he suddenly said he wants to date.
[And my roommate just so happens to have taken a liking to his face.
[So I gave her his WeChat and even said I’d be their strategist.
[But for some reason, this guy got really mad.
[He kept a cold face the entire time we were eating and ignored me.
[No matter how I tried to coax him, he wouldn’t come around.
[I’m sitting here thinking, I didn’t do anything wrong, did I?
[He said he wanted to date, so I introduced him to someone.
[And she’s exactly the type straight guys like.
[My roommate looks innocent.
[But she’s actually wild as hell.
[At night she secretly watches hot guys under the covers and reads romance webnovels.
[She’s super pent-up, so she’ll definitely take the initiative.
[She’s perfect for a little inexperienced virgin like him to get some practice.
[I’m being so thoughtful as his dad, so what exactly is he mad about?]
The comments under the post were even more of a laughing mess.
[One of them is always too stubborn to admit anything, and the other is always oblivious. In a way, that’s a perfect match.]
[I’m seriously shipping you two bickering lovebirds so hard.]
[Brother Pei is mad because you’re too dense to realize it!]
[You pushed him toward someone else and even said you’d be their strategist. It’s already good enough that he didn’t pass out from anger.]
[Brother Pei wants to date you!]
Song Fuling replied to the latest comment:
[Who says Pei Yanci wants to date me? Tch. Leaving aside the fact that I don’t even like him, if he wants me, does that mean I have to say yes?
[Besides, who knows if he’s just fooling around.
[I don’t care. I’ll let my roommate test him out first.
[We’ll see just how sincere he really is~]
