Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Trouble eventually found me after I started high school.
The Liu family cornered me near the school, claiming that since I was their daughter, I couldn’t just live a good life and forget about them.
They demanded money, threatening to harass me at school and let everyone know I was a fake heiress if I didn’t comply.
They told me to remember my place-that I was just a peasant girl born in some rural-urban fringe, a “money-losing commodity” who would inevitably be bullied to death without a biological brother to support me.
I refused to give them a cent.
Once you start giving, it becomes a bottomless pit; they would never be satisfied.
As I turned to leave, I noticed Su Ying standing not far away, watching me.
I felt a wave of humiliation.
She must have seen me at my most pathetic.
The next day, I don’t know how it happened, but the news that I wasn’t the real heiress spread throughout the school.
My classmates looked at me with nothing but contempt and scrutiny.
“Su Wanwan, you really know how to flatter yourself. You’re just a nanny’s kid who stole Su Ying’s identity for all these years. How do you have the nerve to claim you’re twins?”
“Your parents are scum. Swapping someone else’s child is a crime. How shameless. I bet you’re just like them, aren’t you?”
“And now she’s still clinging to the Su family, refusing to leave because she can’t give up the high life. How disgusting. She usually acts so noble, but she’s actually just the child of criminals.”
“I knew she looked plain. She doesn’t look anything like Mr. Su or Mrs. Su. Turns out she really is a fake.”
At first, they only whispered loudly behind my back. Since what they said was true, I couldn’t refute it.
Later, they started saying it to my face. They would shove me, exclude me from group activities, and cover their mouths in disgust when I walked by, calling me a rat from the gutters.
The class monitor, Liang Qi, gave me a carton of milk and told me not to let it get to me.
Liang Qi was the school heartthrob-good family, top grades, and talented enough to participate in various international competitions.
Even though we hadn’t interacted much before, I was grateful that he was willing to help me.
However, his kindness only incited bullying from his admirers.
They cornered me in the restroom, dumped a trash can over my head, and splashed dirty water all over me.
They yanked at my clothes and hit me.
I tried to fight back, but I couldn’t overpower so many people.
At the critical moment, someone kicked the restroom door open. Holding a hose, they sprayed the bathroom until it looked like a flood.
The girls bullying me screamed and fled in terror. Then, a thin but slender hand grabbed me and pulled me toward the door.
“Are you okay?”
I froze for a moment.
It was Su Ying.
