Chapter 9
Chapter 9
Wang Cuiping’s limbs were thin as sticks, skeletal in appearance, yet her belly bulged high, looking as large as a woman about to give birth.
Seeing me staring at her stomach, Wang Cuiping lowered her head unnaturally, her voice carrying a hint of a sob.
“Take me out of here-”
“Alright-”
I sighed and walked over to support her by the arm.
I looped a vine under her armpits, secured it across her chest with a sturdy knot, and then climbed to the top of the tree using another vine before pulling Wang Cuiping up.
As I neared the top, I noticed a strange-looking symbol carved into the trunk.
Wang Cuiping looked up at me nervously.
“Qiao Moyu, what did you see?”
“Nothing.”
I shook my head and reached out to touch the Rune. I didn’t know what kind of pigment had been used to draw it, but as soon as I touched it, more than half of it disappeared.
Suppressing a flicker of doubt in my heart, I continued climbing. Soon, I reached the top and sat on a branch, then pulled Wang Cuiping up after me.
Once we were at the top, we wrapped the vines around our waists and slowly slid down, taking the opportunity to observe the battle below as we descended.
Jiang Haoyan was currently fighting the Wild Man.
Oh, I misread the situation-he was actually being unilaterally beaten by the Wild Man.
With a single punch from the Wild Man, Jiang Haoyan was sent flying. His body slammed into a tree trunk, and the contents of his backpack scattered all over the ground.
My eyes lit up, and I jumped down to pick up the Thunderstruck Wood Talisman.
“Nice job, Xiao Jiang!”
“Qiao Moyu-”
Overjoyed, Jiang Haoyan rushed over to hug me.
“You scared me to death! I’m so glad you’re okay-”
“Look at you, where’s your courage? It’s just a Wild Man, nothing to be afraid of. Move aside and watch me!”
I pushed Jiang Haoyan away, grabbed a few talisman papers, chanted a Fire Ignition Spell, and threw them at the Wild Man.
As the papers drifted onto the Wild Man’s back, his thick coat of hair quickly caught fire. He let out a strange cry, rolling on the ground in agony.
Hua Yuling breathed a sigh of relief and waved her hand. From out of nowhere, a swarm of large rats scurried out and pounced on the Wild Man, biting him ferociously.
In addition to the rats, poisonous insects-centipedes, lizards, and all sorts of unidentifiable bugs-constantly crawled out from underground, surrounding the Wild Man in a dense mass.
The Wild Man thrashed and struggled, letting out desperate roars, but he soon went limp and collapsed on the ground, motionless.
I walked over to Hua Yuling and patted her on the shoulder.
“Sister, I knew I could count on you.”
“Ah! A ghost!”
Hua Yuling suddenly shrieked and slapped me right in the face, sending me stumbling back.
