Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I still hadn’t recovered even after they left.
I crouched on the floor, staring at the scattered papers. The edge of a document had sliced a long cut across my hand, and it was bleeding.
But I just sat there in a daze. When Lu Cheng’an had told me before that he had a girlfriend, some part of me had refused to believe it.
Until today, when I saw his girlfriend with my own eyes.
A girlfriend who looked exactly like the dead me.
Lu Cheng’an had always been rational. I couldn’t understand why he would do something so absurd and find someone who resembled me to this extent.
Yes, five years had already passed. If he had forgotten me and found someone else, I would only have sighed and called it human nature. After all, no one was obligated to stay faithful to a dead person.
Could I really expect Lu Cheng’an to remain alone for me for the rest of his life?
I would have been sad and disappointed, but I would have silently given him my blessing deep down, accepted my loss with grace, and let it go.
But he had found a substitute.
I didn’t know what I was feeling.
I loved him, and I respected him. He could date any woman he wanted, but that person should not have looked so much like me.
Because what I felt was resentment, anger, and… disgust.
I looked at the wound on my hand.
If it had been the old me, I would definitely have held up my hand all spoiled and delicate, deliberately going to Lu Cheng’an to act cute. He would have been heartbroken, carefully found a Band-Aid and put it on for me, then held my hand and blown on it.
But now, all I could do was stare blankly at the wound, then comfort myself that it was fine as I watched him leave with someone else in his arms.
Tang Wei, it’s fine.
I tried to persuade myself in my heart. This was five years later. Lu Cheng’an didn’t know me. It was only natural for him to be cold toward me.
But I still pressed a hand over my heart, where a dull ache throbbed uncontrollably.
Five years after my death, he had a new girlfriend.
His new girlfriend had a face identical to the dead me.
It was enough to make a person uncontrollably furious.
I asked my colleague Amy about Lu Cheng’an and Su Luo.
My intentions were far too obvious. Everyone in the company knew I had come because of Lu Cheng’an.
Amy gossiped with me. “Su Luo? President Lu’s girlfriend. They’ve been together for more than four years. I guess heaven is still fair. It opened a door for her, but closed a window. She can’t speak.”
Then Amy changed tack and said, “But I heard, and this is just what I heard, that the reason she’s been by the boss’s side for so long is because she looks a lot like his dead ex-girlfriend. You know, the kind of unforgettable first love, the moonlight in his heart?”
“How does that saying go? Something like, after you, every woman by my side is only your shadow.”
I tugged at the corner of my mouth in a smile. I found it absurd, and I didn’t feel touched at all.
Because no matter how much she looked like me, she still wasn’t me.
And less than a year after I died, not even a year, Lu Cheng’an, you were already with someone else.
