Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“Qiao Yuchu, six years of nursing experience at Nancheng Psychiatric Center.”
That was the identity I assumed when I appeared before Lu Ze.
Thanks to that psychiatric evaluation, he’d escaped criminal liability.
The price was spending a few months in a psychiatric hospital until the scandal blew over.
The instant Lu Ze saw me, he smiled.
“What a pretty new toy. I like it.”
Before me, Lu Ze had already tormented more than a dozen caregivers into quitting.
One of them had been found covered in blood and was still in intensive care.
No matter how high the pay, no one else dared come take care of this violent maniac.
But I was different.
“I’m not here to be your toy,” I said softly.
Before the words had even left my mouth, a glass came hurtling straight at my head.
It shattered on impact, shards flying as blood immediately streamed down my forehead.
Lu Ze lounged against the bed, watching me with a pleasant smile.
He was waiting for my reaction.
The caregivers before me had either screamed, broken down, or flown into a rage.
I did none of those things.
I merely stuck out my tongue and licked the blood that had trickled to the corner of my mouth.
Lu Ze stopped smiling.
Until now, his world had been filled with sheep.
But at last, one wolf had encountered another in the wilderness.
It must have been quite the novel experience, no?
I walked toward Lu Ze one measured step at a time, sat down, and gazed intently into his eyes.
“You enjoy watching other people suffer, don’t you?” I asked softly.
That was how violent sadists were wired.
Watching others suffer gave them an intense rush of pleasure.
“Unfortunately, I can’t feel pain. There’s no point in tormenting me.”
“You can’t feel pain?” Lu Ze asked in a low voice.
“Don’t believe me?”
I picked up a glass ashtray and placed it in Lu Ze’s hand. “Then go ahead. Try again.”
Glass objects weren’t allowed in psychiatric hospitals.
But Lu Ze was the only son of the chairman of Shengming Group. Naturally, he stood above every rule.
He held the ashtray and stared into my eyes without moving.
My gaze was far too calm, like the surface of still water.
No one could feel a sense of accomplishment from striking the surface of the water over and over again.
It bored him.
But that was all right. I could help him find another source of amusement.
Looking into Lu Ze’s eyes, I spoke softly. “I may not feel pain, but if you want to enjoy the sight of suffering, I can still make that happen.”
There was something deeply unnatural about my eyes.
Ordinary people were frightened by them.
Madmen were drawn to them.
See, Lu Ze? You couldn’t resist them either.
Staring into my eyes, Lu Ze asked without thinking, “How?”
“Look over there.” I pointed to the right.
A mirror stood there, reflecting both of us.
The moment Lu Ze turned to look, I clamped my hand around his.
Then I drove the ashtray in his grasp hard into his head.
