Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Dashun used to work for me. He was simple, honest, and hardworking.
I was the one who taught him almost everything he knew about driving heavy trucks.
Later, my business partner screwed me over, and the company went bankrupt.
Dashun still wanted to stay with me, but I forced him to leave.
He had a wife, children, and parents at home. I couldn’t drag him down with me.
Even so, over the past two years, while I’d been busy paying off my debts, Dashun and I had never lost touch.
Whenever my family needed help with anything, Dashun was always the first to rush over.
Dashun’s current boss, Peng You, was an old acquaintance of mine too. When he heard I was willing to take on the remaining job, he immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
“Brother Long, if you’re willing to make this run, I’ll cover the fuel and the truck expenses. Whatever payment comes in is all yours.”
After hearing what Peng You said, Dashun’s wife found an excuse to pull me out into the hospital corridor.
“Brother Long, Dashun’s illness this time is obviously strange. When they set out, the Buddha Head and Buddha Body clearly left together, but in the end, only Dashun delivered his part.”
I frowned. I’d thought something was off. Peng You had been in trucking for almost as long as I had, so how could he not know the rules of Yunfo?
For a segmented Buddha statue like this, no matter how many trucks were used, they had to depart at the same time and arrive at the same time. The timing was calculated in advance.
Even if the drivers needed to use the bathroom along the way, they had to go together. One stopping while the other kept going was taboo.
When Peng You called and told me only the Buddha Head had been delivered while the Buddha Body still hadn’t arrived, I’d already found it strange. I’d thought maybe that temple had some special requirements.
Dashun’s wife wiped her tears and continued,
“The night Dashun came back, he already seemed off. I asked him what happened, and he said he’d had a scrape on the road. The truck’s front end got scratched up, but it wasn’t anything serious.
“I told him to hurry up and rest, but in the middle of the night, he started running a fever and kept talking nonsense. He’s been in the hospital for two days now, and they still haven’t found the cause.
“My guess is, no one dares to take the Buddha Body delivery now. That’s why Peng You used this as an excuse to call you.”
Dashun’s wife was an honest person too. Back when my wife was gravely ill in the hospital, she often came to help me take care of her.
“I understand,” I said, comforting her. “Don’t worry.
“Yunfo has a lot of rules, but it’s still a blessed kind of work. Dashun has never been disrespectful. Once I deliver the Buddha Body, I’ll burn incense for him properly. Buddha will definitely bless Dashun and help him recover.”
Dashun’s wife’s eyes were red as she nodded.

Soul-Whip 3: Transporting the Buddha
A buddy of mine who drove long-haul trucks took a job delivering a Buddha Head.
The Buddha Head had clearly arrived safely, yet he came down with a fever that wouldn’t break and was...
