Chapter 5

By the time I rushed outside with Chen Ling, the world beyond had changed.

The sky, which had been fairly clear before, was now dark and overcast, as if rain might fall at any moment.

Here in the Demon Domain, that could only mean one thing: the Master of the Demon Domain was in a terrible mood.

We ran out of the courtyard and immediately ran into Mingyuan. He was dressed in a groom’s wedding robe, and honestly, he looked pretty good.

In his hands, he was carrying two limp paper figures.

He moved swiftly to my side. “Careful. The paper figures have started attacking people.”

The moment he finished speaking, several more paper maidservants emerged from every direction. They stretched out their razor-sharp nails, mouths splitting into wide grins, and rushed at us one after another.

Mingyuan and I shielded Chen Ling behind us, formed hand seals, and each unleashed our own techniques.

“All things revere the Fire God; demons and ghosts around me turn to ash!”

Countless yellow talismans burst into flame and shot toward the paper figures.

The talismans stuck to their foreheads, and the flames swallowed their bodies in an instant.

After a series of shrill screams, the paper figures turned to ash.

“Holy crap… that’s insane.” Chen Ling hid behind me in a daze, staring until her eyes went wide.

Mingyuan was also attacking with fire, and the results were obvious. For the moment, those paper figures couldn’t get close.

But while they were weak, there were just too many of them!

The second one paper figure fell, thousands upon thousands more stood up.

Our strength gradually began to run out.

“Hahahahaha!” A piercing, vicious laugh rang out from above.

A yellow weasel had leaped onto the roof. He stood upright like a person, one paw even planted on his hip.

“This is what you get for bullying me! And for stealing my bride!” He pointed at me. “Paper soldiers, heed my command! Tear her apart!”

As soon as he spoke, the number of paper figures doubled.

At this rate, we wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.

“Mingyuan, hold them off for a bit.”

I looked up at that detestable weasel. “To catch the bandits, first catch their king. I’m going to tie him up!”

I flung out a handful of yellow talismans to clear away the paper figures blocking me, stepped onto the stone table in the courtyard, pulled the Demon-Binding Rope from my waist, and hurled it at the weasel.

The weasel’s laughter cut off abruptly. He dropped to all fours and instinctively tried to flee.

But my Demon-Binding Rope was faster. The end of the rope climbed up his hind leg and bound him up tightly in one smooth motion.

I leaped onto the roof, crouched in front of him, and smacked him on the head. “Weren’t you feeling pretty smug?

“Laugh. Go on, keep laughing!”

He struggled with all his might. “I’m warning you, stop hitting me!

“Or else… or else I’ll make you regret it!”

“Oh?” I laughed, then reached out and slapped him again.

The air went quiet for a moment.

Little Weasel stared at me with wide eyes. A few seconds later, his mouth opened, and he started crying…

His wails echoed through the entire estate again and again.

The paper figures stopped attacking. They stood frozen in place, their bodies trembling nonstop, then turned and fled in every direction.

In the blink of an eye, they had vanished without a trace.

Chen Ling poked her head out from behind Mingyuan. “Huh? Why did they all run away?”

“Dad! Someone hit me!” Little Weasel cried as if his heart were being torn apart. “Dad, hurry and save me!”

Mingyuan’s brows drew together slightly as he looked up at me. “Ruyi, get down! Now!”

I didn’t ask questions. I grabbed Little Weasel and jumped down.

The moment I landed, the ground behind me began to shake violently.

“An earthquake?!” Chen Ling swayed unsteadily and only managed to keep her feet by grabbing my arm.

Sensing something, I lifted my head and followed Mingyuan’s gaze.

A massive figure was slowly rising from the ground. Its enormous shadow blotted out the light, plunging the entire courtyard into gloom.

Two lantern-like eyes slowly opened, and the pressure in the air skyrocketed.

Chen Ling’s hands were shaking. “So big… such a huge weasel!”

Mingyuan said in a low voice, “That is the true Lord of the Demon Domain.”
