My casual acceptance left Song Jingyu visibly stunned. A heartbeat later, immense delight swept across his face.

Before he could say anything, Song Jingyuan’s tall, lean figure emerged from the shadows.

Then a comment flashed past.

【Hahaha! The male lead thought the supporting girl loved him so much that he bet the person beside him she would reject Song Jingyu without a second thought.】

Only then did I realize Song Jingyuan had been watching from the darkness for who knew how long.

He had stood by while I cried, coldly observing. Only when he saw me accept Song Jingyu did he step into the light.

His cool gaze moved from me to the hand I was gripping tightly with Song Jingyu.

The moment he shifted his weight, Song Jingyu stepped in front of me and grinned at his brother.

“What is it, Brother? Come to congratulate me on finding a girlfriend? You’re always telling Mom and Dad to hurry me along. Now I’ve finally found someone. You should be happy for me.”

Song Jingyuan did not look happy. Song Jingyu, however, pretended not to notice and continued blithely.

“You can save the congratulations. I’d like some time alone with my girlfriend first.”

“Your girlfriend?” Song Jingyuan sounded almost amused with rage, the words forced out through clenched teeth.

Song Jingyu acted as if he did not understand. He lifted our joined hands for his brother to see.

“Of course she’s my girlfriend.”

When Song Jingyuan’s gaze landed on my bare fingers, his pupils contracted. The sudden fury in his eyes was almost tangible.

I jumped in fright and instinctively hid behind Song Jingyu.

The comments began again above me.

【The male lead really believed the supporting girl was devoted to him. They broke up this afternoon, and by tonight she’d already sold their couple’s ring.】

【We told you she was a gold digger. Our precious heroine is the only woman who genuinely loves the male lead and wants nothing from him.】

Perhaps it was my imagination, but Song Jingyuan’s expression seemed to turn even darker after that comment appeared.

Song Jingyu, determined to fan the flames, hauled me out from behind him and wrapped an arm around me.

He shot Song Jingyuan a provocative look. “Of course she’s my girlfriend. Why are you still standing here, Brother? Do you want to watch us get intimate?”

As he spoke, he suddenly cupped the back of my head and made as if to kiss me.

Everything was moving too fast. My whole body went rigid, and I had no idea how to react. In my panic, I noticed Song Jingyuan’s fists clench in the corner of my vision—a warning sign that he was about to lose his temper.

At the crucial moment, Qin Zhenzhen appeared and looped an arm through his.

“Why have you been out here so long? It’s boring inside without you.” She never once looked at Song Jingyu or me. She merely focused on Song Jingyuan, her voice faintly petulant.

The irritation on Song Jingyuan’s face visibly eased at her arrival.

In an instant, he had put on a tender expression. He reached out to stroke her hair and said gently, “I came out for some air. Sorry to keep you waiting.”

I had spent three years as Song Jingyuan’s kept woman, devoted entirely to pleasing him, yet I had never seen him look so tender.

That was when Song Jingyu crooked a finger against my palm. I looked up. He rolled his eyes toward the pair and silently mouthed, They hooked up ages ago. A woman who knowingly becomes a mistress can’t be any good. But my brother treats her like treasure.

His expression made me laugh. Then I remembered Qin Zhenzhen and Song Jingyuan were standing right there. My mouth twisted, and the laughter died.
