Chapter 79
Chapter 79
“It’s not a suspicion; it’s a confirmation,” Qin Weiyi said, his tone cold.
Xia Zeqin arched an eyebrow, seemingly disdainful of bickering with Qin Weiyi.
Lin Junruo, however, felt that Qin Weiyi’s words made perfect sense. With someone like Xia Zeqin, what wouldn’t he be capable of?
Qi Shuping glanced at Qin Weiyi before asking, “Where are Jian Fan and the others?”
Qin Weiyi offered a small smile and replied, “I’m not sure.”
Despite his answer, Qi Shuping understood the underlying message. She smiled as well and thanked him. “Good boy. I understand. I’ll be careful.” Having said that, Qi Shuping looked at the people around her and spoke again. “Since the Vampire’s target is now me, it’s dangerous for you to stay by my side. You’re free to leave on your own.”
Lin Junruo felt a flicker of hesitation.
She had originally sought Qi Shuping’s protection, but if staying with her meant more danger, why should she remain?
But aside from her, no one else showed any intention of leaving.
The thought had flashed through Qian Xing’s mind, but he quickly dismissed it. Jian Fan had told him to stay by Professor Qi’s side to protect her. He couldn’t bring himself to abandon Professor Qi just because danger was on the horizon.
As for Xu Tian and Xia Zeqin, neither seemed to have any emotional reaction to Qin Weiyi’s words.
Regarding Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing, they had come specifically to ensure Qi Shuping lived longer; how could they possibly leave? Even though Qi Shuping was very intelligent, she would only stand a better chance of survival with their help.
Since no one else moved, Lin Junruo didn’t dare to move for the time being either.
Seeing that no one spoke up, Qi Shuping laughed. “Well, it seems this old lady’s popularity is quite good.”
Qin Weiyi said with a smile, “It’s only natural for Professor Qi to be popular. My only fear is that some people have ulterior motives.” As he spoke, his gaze was fixed directly on Xia Zeqin. Of course, there was one other person besides Xia Zeqin.
Qin Weiyi glanced at Xu Tian out of the corner of his eye.
Xu Tian’s presence seemed low-key, but as someone who had been by Qi Shuping’s side from the beginning, Qin Weiyi didn’t dare let his guard down around her for a second.
“You seem to be targeting me quite a bit,” Xia Zeqin said, looking at Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi smiled. “It would be more accurate if you removed the word ‘seem.'”
Xia Zeqin let out a soft chuckle. “A child. Interesting.”
“Sometimes, children see things much more clearly than adults. And this child has a word of advice for the adult: don’t underestimate any child. Otherwise, if you end up losing to one, you’ll become a laughingstock.” Qin Weiyi didn’t back down from Xia Zeqin in the slightest.
In terms of intellect, he didn’t believe he was inferior to Xia Zeqin. In terms of combat, he had Lu Jing. Who was he supposed to be afraid of?
Seeing the tension between the two growing thicker, Qi Shuping spoke up at the right moment. “Let’s find somewhere to take cover first.”
Since the Vampire had already targeted her, she couldn’t afford to wander around aimlessly. Otherwise, they might run straight into it.
“Isn’t our group a bit too large of a target?” Xu Tian suddenly spoke up after Qi Shuping finished.
Her words drew Qin Weiyi’s attention. Although he suspected she had hidden motives, he had to admit her point was valid. A group of seven was too large a target, but if they split up…
Qin Weiyi lowered his eyes in thought.
Lu Jing stood right beside Qin Weiyi. Since he wasn’t much for strategy, he didn’t bother thinking about such things. He focused solely on observing their surroundings so he could sound the alarm the moment danger appeared.
Lu Jing was the first to notice something, though it wasn’t a sign of danger.
“Walkie-talkies,” Lu Jing suddenly spoke up.
Qin Weiyi looked at him.
Seeing Qin Weiyi’s gaze, Lu Jing scratched his head. “Is something wrong? I just thought we might find them useful.”
“They are useful,” Qin Weiyi said with a smile. It was more than just useful; it was exactly what they needed.
He turned back to look at the seven people present.
“Xu Tian is right. Seven people are too big of a target. We should split up. Let’s take the walkie-talkies so we can alert each other if anything happens.” As he spoke, Qin Weiyi’s gaze swept over the group one by one.
Lu Jing had to stay by Qi Shuping’s side. That way, he could step in immediately to save her if anything went wrong. Qin Weiyi himself certainly wasn’t going to leave Qi Shuping either. Among the remaining people, Qian Xing was currently the most trustworthy. As for Lin Junruo, her reliability was decent, but she wasn’t particularly useful.
“Lu Jing and I will go with Professor Qi. Qian Xing, you go with Lin Junruo. Xia Zeqin, you’ll be with Xu Tian. How does that sound?” Qin Weiyi suggested.
Xu Tian clearly had designs on Qi Shuping. Regardless of what her motives were, they had to be separated now. Otherwise, with a Vampire ahead and Xu Tian beside her, things wouldn’t end well for Qi Shuping. As for Xia Zeqin, he was a dangerous variable and needed to be excluded.
“I’m fine with that,” Lin Junruo was the first to agree.
She was so relieved she could have cried. Not only was she getting away from the danger surrounding Qi Shuping, but she was also paired with Qian Xing instead of someone like Xia Zeqin.
Qian Xing glanced at Lu Jing.
Lu Jing was clearly more capable of protecting Qi Shuping than he was, so this wouldn’t count as failing the task Jian Fan had given him. He could report back to Jian Fan and keep himself alive at the same time. Qian Xing quickly voiced his agreement as well.
“No problem here,” Qian Xing said.
Qin Weiyi looked toward Xu Tian and Xia Zeqin. “What about you two? A group of four or five is just too big a target.”
Xia Zeqin watched Qin Weiyi with a half-smile, offering no comment.
Xu Tian frowned and asked, “Why are you the one with Professor Qi and not me?”
“It’s simple. Out of everyone here, is there anyone with higher combat prowess than Lu Jing? He’s the most suitable person to protect Professor Qi. If we run into a Vampire, Lu Jing can carry one person in each arm and run with me and Professor Qi. Can you do that?”
Xu Tian: “…”
She couldn’t.
Xu Tian wasn’t happy about it, but it seemed she had no choice.
The group each took a walkie-talkie and prepared to part ways.
However, before Qian Xing could leave, Qin Weiyi suddenly grabbed him. He leaned in and whispered a low instruction: “Go to the Surveillance Room. Keep us updated on the situation at all times.”
After a brief pause, Qian Xing understood immediately.
As long as Qi Shuping stayed within the range of the Surveillance cameras, he would be able to see any approaching Vampires clearly from the Surveillance Room. He could then warn her to avoid them in advance, ensuring her safety.
Qin Weiyi had gone out of his way to avoid the others and tell him this privately, and Qian Xing had a good idea why.
Qin Weiyi was guarding against the others. Whether that meant Xu Tian or Xia Zeqin, Qian Xing decided it was better not to dwell on that question.
Qi Shuping had already left with Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing. After watching her figure disappear into the distance, Xia Zeqin suddenly turned, swept a glance over Qian Xing, and walked away without bothering to acknowledge Xu Tian.
Qian Xing shifted his gaze to Xu Tian.
Xu Tian’s brow furrowed. After a short hesitation, she followed in the direction Xia Zeqin had gone.
