Chapter 75

Those eerie sounds seemed to be drawing closer and closer to them.

Qin Nan cursed several times in his head.

They hadn’t made a single sound, so why were the Vampires in this lair being alerted? Besides, weren’t these Vampires supposed to have gone downstairs for that Theme Party? Why did it sound like there were still so many of them up here, judging by those clicking noises?

Was the game trying to kill him?

The only choice they seemed to have was to retreat the way they came.

But this wasn’t like last time. They didn’t know how long these Stairs were, and walking through the darkness for that long meant a single misstep could send them tumbling down.

Qin Nan even felt that rolling down might actually be faster…

However, they had worked so hard to climb up here. If they left now, wouldn’t they just be back at square one? Moreover, there were Vampires downstairs too. If they ran down, they might end up caught in a pincer attack.

Qin Nan couldn’t make up his mind. As the sounds drew nearer, he had no choice but to turn his gaze toward Jian Fan.

Mu Xin did the same.

She knew the only current option was to retreat, but that also carried risks, and she was unwilling to give up. She hoped Jian Fan could come up with a better plan at a time like this.

Did Jian Fan have a plan?

No.

But not having a plan didn’t mean he was going to sit and wait for death. He didn’t look at Qin Nan or Mu Xin; instead, he directly opened the Points System.

Xia Zeqin had seemingly used an item before, and now, Jian Fan needed to use one too.

Jian Fan quickly found the item he was looking for and clicked to exchange.

“Confirm exchange for Invisibility Pearl (One Hour)? Exchange cost is 100 Points.”

Jian Fan decisively pressed ‘Yes’.

After exchanging for the item, Jian Fan used it immediately. Once the Invisibility Pearl was activated, although nothing visible changed to the naked eye, there was a faint sensation of being isolated from the outside world.

It was a very subtle feeling.

Both Qin Nan and Mu Xin noticed it.

However, neither dared to speak up at that moment, fearing that their voices would attract the Vampires’ attention.

“I used an Invisibility Pearl,” Jian Fan suddenly spoke.

The area he occupied was now hidden. Naturally, they could speak to each other now without alerting the Vampires.

Both Qin Nan and Mu Xin breathed a sigh of relief.

“That scared me so much my heart almost jumped out of my chest. But we didn’t make any noise this time, so how did the Vampires notice us? Is there Surveillance up here too?” Qin Nan expressed his sincere confusion.

It couldn’t be some rigged setting where the Vampires automatically sensed them the moment they stepped into the lair, right?

Jian Fan shook his head; he didn’t know either.

He had originally thought it was triggered by sound, but now it seemed things were more complicated than they had imagined.

However, they soon lost the luxury of worrying about that.

A group of Skeletons suddenly appeared at the end of the Corridor. They were walking toward them in rows of three. As the Skeletons moved, the friction between their bones produced a sharp “click-clack” sound.

The noises they had been hearing came from these Skeletons.

Qin Nan’s eyes widened.

“Vampires… keeping Skeletons now?” Qin Nan was shocked. After the shock came a wave of dread. “With this many Skeletons, how are we supposed to play?”

In terms of numbers, their small group could be wiped out instantly.

Jian Fan’s brow furrowed deeply as well.

The Skeletons walked straight toward them-or rather, their target was the Stairs behind them. Once their area was hidden, the Skeletons failed to perceive their existence and stepped directly into the darkness without a moment’s hesitation.
Qin Nan watched the scene unfold, his tongue pressing against the roof of his mouth in suspicion. “Why do I get the feeling they aren’t coming for us?”

Jian Fan had the same feeling.

It wasn’t their presence that had alerted the Vampires, so the appearance of these Skeletons had to be for another reason. Most likely, something had happened back at the Bar.

They had no way of contacting Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing at the Bar, so they were naturally in the dark about the situation downstairs.

However, judging by the scale of this Skeleton march, the other Players downstairs would be in grave danger. A sense of urgency immediately rose in Jian Fan’s heart. He didn’t care about the lives of Qin Weiyi or Lu Jing, but Qi Shuping and-

Xia Zeqin.

Jian Fan tightened his grip slightly, his expression unusually heavy.

The Skeletons marched into the darkness in an orderly, rhythmic line. The clicking sounds of their movement gradually faded into the distance.

Soon, the entrance to the Corridor fell back into silence.

“Let’s go,” Jian Fan said. “We still can’t be sure if there are any Vampires here. Try to avoid speaking from now on. We’re running out of time. If you encounter any danger, come back here.” Having said that, Jian Fan took the lead and stepped out of the hidden area.

The Invisibility Pearl could only shield the spot where Jian Fan stood when it was used. Now that they were leaving, they could no longer benefit from the Pearl’s concealment.

Seeing Jian Fan move forward, Qin Nan followed immediately.

However, before stepping out of the hidden area, Qin Nan didn’t forget to curse under his breath, “What a crappy world, garbage settings!”

Mu Xin watched as Qin Nan grumbled, but the moment his foot stepped forward, he clamped his mouth shut. With a solemn expression and lips sealed tight, he followed closely behind Jian Fan.

Mu Xin blinked.

They said women changed their faces faster than flipping pages in a book, but Qin Nan was certainly no slouch in that department either.

The three of them began heading toward the end of the Corridor.

While Qin Nan’s group was exploring their area, Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing had also reached the vicinity of the Stairs. But before they could head up, they heard a series of rhythmic clicks.

Lu Jing immediately looked at Qin Weiyi.

Qin Weiyi’s face also showed a hint of surprise. They hadn’t seen Qin Nan’s group nearby, and the three of them shouldn’t have been so careless as to alert the Vampires again.

What was with this clicking sound?

As the sound drew closer, Qin Weiyi didn’t dare linger. He quickly grabbed Lu Jing and pulled him into a small room nearby.

Qin Weiyi left the door open just a crack. This room provided a good vantage point, allowing them to see exactly what was happening at the foot of the Stairs. Holding his breath, Qin Weiyi stared unblinkingly at the opening.

Click, click.

The sound continued to approach.

Lu Jing leaned in as well, standing right behind Qin Weiyi. Since he was taller, the two of them could see the situation outside clearly, one positioned above the other.

Time ticked by.

A skeletal foot was the first thing to enter Qin Weiyi’s sight. Before he could even process his shock, flesh began to rapidly grow over the bone. In the blink of an eye, as the Skeleton stepped from the darkness into the light, skin and muscle sprouted across its frame, followed by clothes.

Qin Weiyi reached up and clamped his hand firmly over his own mouth.

He finally understood why the Vampires left behind a Skin Sack after they died.

The skin didn’t belong to them at all.

Lu Jing’s eyes widened. He instinctively opened his mouth to exclaim, but his gaze dropped to the top of Qin Weiyi’s head, and he silently shut his mouth again.

They couldn’t speak.
