Chapter 50
Chapter 50
Qin Weiyi looked at Jian Fan.
“We can’t be sure whether the Vampires’ prey is only us, or if it includes all the NPCs on the floor as well,” Jian Fan explained.
They could confirm which Players had been victimized, but they couldn’t confirm whether any NPCs had been attacked. That meant that even if their guess was right, they still couldn’t be sure how many targets a Vampire planned to feed on in a single night.
Qin Weiyi nodded. “I missed that. So even now, we can’t say we’re completely safe. The Vampires will most likely keep hunting. But-” Qin Weiyi looked toward Qi Shuping.
The implication was obvious.
Jian Fan furrowed his brow. Qin Nan even caught a hint of impatience in him.
He really did care about Qi Shuping.
“Look, some things only matter if the person’s still here to talk about them. If they’re already gone, what’s the point?” Qin Nan spoke again, offering a subtle warning.
Jian Fan paused. “You’re right.”
Qin Nan laughed. “Of course I am. I used to do relationship analysis for a lot of my followers.”
“Followers?” Mu Xin asked curiously.
“Yeah. In real life my main job is running a big influencer account-doing stuff like roasting movies and TV dramas.” As he spoke, Qin Nan scratched his head, a little embarrassed. “Not like Jian Fan, though. He’s on another level.”
“Being able to make a living from that is already something very few people can pull off. Don’t talk yourself down,” Mu Xin said with a smile, then shrugged. “I’m probably the most ordinary one here. I’m just a regular high school senior about to graduate.”
“That means your future’s wide open,” Qin Nan replied.
They only chatted casually for a moment before Qin Nan steered things back on track. “So what do we do now-just sit here? Or…?” His gaze swept over the dance floor.
He was clearly referring to Qin Weiyi’s earlier proposal.
“Let’s split up,” Jian Fan said.
Qin Weiyi asked, “How?”
“I’ve got bad blood with Xia Zeqin.” Jian Fan looked at Qin Weiyi as he said it.
Qin Weiyi immediately flashed an OK sign. “Got it. Lu Jing and I will go. What are you doing?”
“Find the bartender,” Jian Fan said bluntly.
Right now, their biggest lead still lay with the bartender who mixed the Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was blood, and the customers it was served to were almost certainly Vampires. So aside from the Bloody Mary legend he’d mentioned, he had to know at least something about the Vampires’ identities.
They might be able to get more clues from him.
“Alright,” Qin Weiyi said, with no objections.
Mu Xin and Qin Nan didn’t object either.
Once they’d agreed, there was no point in continuing to sit around.
Qin Weiyi took Lu Jing straight into the dance floor.
Qin Weiyi quickly blended into the vibe, swaying with the music in a convincing way. If he looked a little more mature, he probably wouldn’t have drawn those slightly odd looks from people around him.
As for Lu Jing-an honest, big, tough guy who’d never been to a bar in his life-he had no idea what to do and could only copy what he saw. But even when Qin Weiyi’s moves were perfectly normal, when Lu Jing did the same thing, it somehow looked weird, like he came with his own built-in comedic effect.
The moment they stepped onto the floor, the bizarre combination attracted plenty of attention.
Neither of them seemed bothered in the slightest.
Jian Fan was ready to move too.
But before going to look for the bartender, he looked at Qin Nan. “In a bit, I need some time alone with Professor Qi.”
Qin Nan understood. Jian Fan needed to tell Qi Shuping about Wang Hao and his companion. But… just thinking of Wang Hao and the other man made Qin Nan’s scalp prickle. If he had any choice, he really didn’t want to deal with those two again-who knew if they’d suddenly make a move against him.
“If you’re unwilling, could I trouble you to go speak with Professor Qi instead?” Jian Fan noticed Qin Nan’s hesitation.
Upon hearing Jian Fan’s words, Qin Nan’s initial fear suddenly vanished. He smiled and waved a hand dismissively. “You and Professor Qi are the only ones who actually have something to talk about. If I go, whether she’ll even believe me is one thing, but I’m afraid she’ll ask me a few questions I won’t have a clue how to explain. Fine, I’ll go. But you owe me one.”
Given Jian Fan’s personality, the fact that he was using such polite, formal language showed Qin Nan just how important this matter was to him. Fear was one thing, but they were already in the Realm of Death; what could be worse than this?
“Alright,” Jian Fan said with a faint smile.
Although Mu Xin didn’t know the specifics, she had guessed a bit of the situation. She spoke up at this moment: “Then I’ll take the easiest job. I’ll keep an eye on Xu Tian for you.”
Jian Fan looked at Mu Xin, his tone sincere. “Thank you.”
The three of them had a brief discussion and decided that Mu Xin would make the first move.
Xu Tian appeared smarter than Wang Hao and the others. If Qin Nan tried to lead Wang Hao and his companion away first, Xu Tian might not fall for it. Therefore, they would lead Xu Tian away first before dealing with Wang Hao and the other man.
Mu Xin walked straight toward Xu Tian.
“Xu Tian.” Mu Xin came to a stop in front of her. “I want to talk to you.”
Unable to grasp Xu Tian’s temperament, Mu Xin chose a direct approach. The more straightforward she was, the harder it would be for the other woman to figure out her intentions, increasing the likelihood that she would engage.
Aside from leading Xu Tian away, Mu Xin also intended to test her.
Xu Tian looked up at Mu Xin, frowning slightly. Then, her gaze shifted past her toward Jian Fan and Qin Nan in the distance.
This was something they had already considered. When Xu Tian looked over, Qin Nan and Jian Fan had already moved apart. Qin Nan was near the dance floor, swaying his body as if he were about to join the dancing crowd, while Jian Fan was walking between the booths with a glass in hand, quietly observing the surroundings.
The scene looked exactly like three people splitting up to search for clues, with Mu Xin taking the opportunity to come over and talk to her.
Xu Tian didn’t reply immediately. Instead, she looked at Qi Shuping. “Grandma, I’m going to step away for a moment.”
Qi Shuping smiled. “Go ahead, child.”
Xu Tian stood up and left the bar with Mu Xin, finding a secluded corner.
“What do you want to say?” Xu Tian asked.
Mu Xin’s expression remained neutral. “Want to collaborate?”
Xu Tian arched an eyebrow but didn’t respond.
“There are only three girls here. Lin Junruo isn’t suitable to be a teammate, so the only choice I have is you,” Mu Xin said.
Xu Tian let out a short laugh. “Aren’t Qin Nan and Jian Fan your teammates?”
Mu Xin’s lips curled slightly as she replied, “I don’t trust men, especially when there’s such a massive difference in physical strength between the sexes. If something goes wrong, there’s no telling if they’ll throw me out to take the hit. I don’t trust them.”
Xu Tian’s smile deepened. “You’re acting as their partner while simultaneously seeking to form a team with me, not to mention how you abandoned Lin Junruo. With you acting so two-faced, how can I be sure you won’t stab me in the back?”
Mu Xin looked up, meeting Xu Tian’s gaze directly. “I thought we were the same kind of person.”
“The same kind?” Xu Tian neither admitted nor denied it.
“Living. The most important thing for us is to survive. As for anything else, they’re nothing more than our means of survival. In the Realm of Death, being a good person is just a way to get yourself killed,” Mu Xin said coldly.
