Chapter 37

Lin Junruo was the only person present who was truly shocked.

She whipped her head around to look at Zheng Jueming, her face full of disbelief. “The murderer is really you?”

Naturally, Zheng Jueming couldn’t admit it. “How is that possible! What she said is just a guess. Just because she says the Eldest Young Lady and those others aren’t the killers doesn’t make it true! Besides, the Doctor and the Second Master are also suspects, aren’t they? Why say it’s me?”

Lin Junruo was a bit slow compared to the others, but that didn’t mean she lacked intelligence.

The Abacus reference in the Account Book, the relationship between the Accountant and the Third Young Lady, and the dagger found in his room at the very beginning-even if it wasn’t the murder weapon, who would keep a dagger under their pillow for no reason?

Setting aside the connections within the Script, if Mu Xin wasn’t certain that Zheng Jueming was the killer, why would she throw her own teammate under the bus?

“Talking is useless. I think we can vote now. What do you all think?” Xia Zeqin didn’t want to hear Zheng Jueming’s explanations at all.

No one objected.

“It really isn’t me! I know! She! Mu Xin is the murderer! Vote for her! Believe me!” Zheng Jueming stood up, shouting at everyone in a state of agitation.

Still, no one paid him any attention.

The Steward appeared once more.

“Have the young masters and ladies identified the murderer? Once they are sent to the authorities, it cannot be changed. If the wrong person is sent, the young masters and ladies will bear the crime of slander.” The Steward gave a final reminder.

Everyone had already made up their minds.

“Since everyone has decided, then you may tell this old servant who you believe the murderer to be,” the Steward said.

Mu Xin looked up. “I vote for Zheng Jueming.”

“Following that vote,” Qin Nan added immediately.

“Same,” Jian Fan said.

“Zheng Jueming,” Xia Zeqin also spoke.

“Same here.”

“…”

Zheng Jueming received a unanimous vote.

“Are you certain?” the Steward asked one last time.

No one changed their mind.

Realizing he was powerless to change the outcome, Zheng Jueming turned and glared at Mu Xin with pure hatred. “Mu Xin, I’ll kill you!” As he spoke, he lunged toward her, but before he could reach her, he seemed to be bound in place. Under his terrified gaze, he was ruthlessly obliterated by the System.

The Murder Mystery Game world came to an end.

The world before their eyes began to shift, eventually turning into a void of pure white.

The remaining Players had returned to the Realm of Death.

Even though he had been certain Zheng Jueming was the murderer, Qin Nan had still been nervous. It was only when he saw this pure white space again that his heart finally settled.

He opened his control panel.

Current Points: 1800. Accumulated Worlds: Two.

In addition, unlike the previous world, after the Murder Mystery Game ended, he received a message from the Realm of Death. It contained a document that reconstructed the entire plot of the Script.

Just as they had guessed, in order to revive his lover, the deceased Master had murdered his wives and concubines one after another, using their blood to nourish his lover’s soul. He then plotted to use the lives of his descendants to complete the resurrection. He needed someone to do his bidding, and the Accountant caught his eye. Starting with small tasks, the Master eventually told the Accountant about the Resurrection Technique.

However, the Master hadn’t revealed everything, only mentioning the part about the descendants. Once the Accountant learned this, he told his Childhood Sweetheart, hoping to take her away. After being rejected-perhaps out of a desire to save her, or perhaps out of jealousy toward the Third Young Master-a plan began to form in his mind.
The plan had met with unexpected complications; he hadn’t anticipated that the Eldest Young Lady, the Second Young Master, and the Eldest Miss would appear one after another. However, the outcome still aligned with his expectations.

He had murdered the victim and then deliberately placed the blood-stained undergarments in the Second Miss’s room, intending to frame her. Because he wanted to revive Feng Xian, the Accountant believed that the Eldest Miss and the Second Miss were victims who had more than enough motive. Unfortunately, the Eldest Miss was being watched by the victim’s people, making it difficult for him to strike, so he targeted the Second Miss instead.

After killing once, killing again became much easier.

The Third Young Lady had consistently refused to leave with him, and now that the victim was dead, the Accountant knew that as long as the Third Young Master was alive, his Childhood Sweetheart would never be able to leave this place. Therefore, it wasn’t a case of being accidentally walked in on; the Accountant had specifically sought out the Third Young Master to kill him, and he had intentionally used gold from the Vault.

He knew the Second Master had stolen the key to the Vault, so he intended to frame the Second Master for the crime.

That was the gist of it. However, there was one detail: Jian Fan’s character was indeed the victim’s son. His mother had also been a victim, but she was cleverer; before she died, she sent the child away, and he happened to be adopted by a Taoist priest. The reason the priest knew the Resurrection Technique was because he had learned it from the Doctor’s mother.

As the Doctor grew up, he sought revenge against the victim and also aimed to prevent further tragedies from occurring.

However, his power was limited, and the priest couldn’t quite grasp the victim’s methods. Thus, the Doctor had set his sights on the Eldest Miss. Originally, he only intended to befriend her, but he hadn’t expected a romance to blossom. Nor had he expected the victim, who had caused him so much anxiety, to die in such a ridiculous manner.

Qin Nan skimmed the contents and quickly closed the window.

“Go back and rest,” Jian Fan said, taking the initiative to walk over to Qin Nan.

Qin Nan raised an eyebrow in surprise, then chuckled. “Alright, you go ahead. I’ll look around a bit more.”

Jian Fan said nothing else.

The fact that he would say even a single word of trivial small talk to Qin Nan after the game ended was already a sign of significant recognition.

Jian Fan chose a room and went inside to rest.

Qin Weiyi was currently leading Lu Jing toward the rooms. As he passed Qin Nan, he greeted him in a friendly manner before they each selected a room to rest in. Xia Zeqin’s two-person team also left immediately after the game concluded.

In the blink of an eye, only four people remained.

Him, Mu Xin, Lin Junruo, and Xu Tian.

Xu Tian glanced at them without a word, walked to a door, and promptly vanished from the spot.

“Junruo, I have something to say to you,” Mu Xin spoke up, indifferent to Qin Nan’s presence.

Lin Junruo hadn’t realized what was happening yet. Instead, she shot a wary look at Qin Nan and asked, “Should we talk privately?”

“No need. Qin Nan is my new Partner,” Mu Xin stated plainly.

Lin Junruo’s eyes widened. “You recruited Qin Nan? Wait, isn’t he with Jian Fan? Are we going to form a team with the two of them?” After Zheng Jueming disappeared, Lin Junruo had accepted the idea of teaming up with others, but with Qin Nan… thinking back on their previous experiences, she was extremely resistant.

“It’s me, not ‘us’,” Mu Xin said, cutting off Lin Junruo’s train of thought.
