Chapter 7

Noble Consort Sun was very pleased by the flattery and sent someone to take Miss Sun for a stroll through the gardens.

It was at this moment that I happened to run into Miss Sun.

Upon seeing me, she gave a flippant salute and offered a faint smile.

“I must thank the Princess for the poetry gathering; it has allowed this humble girl to make a name for herself. It is a pity, however, that I never got to read the Princess’s own poetry. Ah, did I misspeak? Can you even write poetry, Princess?”

Mocking me?

I might not know how to write poetry, but you landlubber-do you know how to swim?

Without a word, I brushed past her. With a subtle tug, both of us plunged into the water. After letting her drown for long enough, I finally pulled her ashore and brought her back to the palace.

Noble Consort Sun went to find Imperial Father in a towering rage to demand justice for Miss Sun.

She was weeping and wailing when Imperial Father arrived with great, sweeping strides, fuming with anger. But the moment he stepped into the room, he saw Miss Sun in the middle of changing her clothes. Her fair, supple skin was exceptionally dazzling to the eye.

Imperial Father stood there, dazed.

I arrived in a hurry, witnessing this scene at just the right moment.

Noble Consort Sun gritted her teeth, looking as if she wanted to swallow Miss Sun alive.

Unable to endure the tension, Miss Sun had no choice but to feign a faint.

Imperial Father backed out of the room and gave me a deep, searching look.

“You set me up.”

I felt an inexplicable sense of satisfaction, yet my tears fell rapidly. I knelt down in terror and said, “Imperial Father, though I have no family to support me, it would not be difficult to find a beauty from my hometown. Noble Consort Sun is already powerful; it brings me no benefit to help her. Even if I wanted to provide you with a woman, I would never choose someone from the Sun Clan. I beg Imperial Father to investigate the truth.”

Imperial Father remained silent for a moment before raising his hand, ordering an investigation.

As I knelt beneath the trees, I heard the wind whistling past my ears and the sound of my own heart thumping against my chest.

Before long, Imperial Father had the facts clear.

I had exchanged a few words with Miss Sun in the garden before we both fell into the water. It was I who had set aside our differences and desperately pulled Miss Sun out, bringing her here to change her clothes.

As for Imperial Father stumbling upon Miss Sun, it was entirely because Noble Consort Sun believed I was detaining her niece out of personal spite. That was why she had urgently dragged Imperial Father over to preside over the matter, never expecting such a misunderstanding to occur.

Everything was a coincidence.

Left with no choice, Imperial Father conferred upon Miss Sun the title of Beauty Sun.

He had originally intended to make her a Noble Concubine, but Noble Consort Sun desperately declined, saying she did not dare let the court officials think the Sun Clan was monopolizing power in the inner palace. Only then did he relent.

As the dust settled on the matter, my heart was filled with joy.

Between an aging Noble Consort and a carefully groomed daughter of the main branch, how would the Sun Clan choose?

I would wait for them to tear each other apart.

After Imperial Father finished handling the matter, he said to me, “Imperial Father has wronged you. Do not hold it against me. Yunwei, you shall leave the palace and establish your own Princess’ Mansion.”

I was stunned. I looked up sharply, but I couldn’t read the joy or anger on his face. There was only his cold, emotionless gaze falling upon me.

I lowered my head and said softly, “Yes. I obey your command.”

On the day I left the palace, Zhao Mo’er was gloating. Ignoring her confinement, she rushed over to mock me.

“A sparrow doesn’t become a phoenix just by flying onto a high branch. You won’t be able to stay in the palace anymore, Sister. I truly feel sorry for you. I hope you get used to living outside. The master of this inner palace used to be surnamed Sun, and it will continue to be surnamed Sun in the future.”

I smiled slightly, not the least bit discouraged.

I ordered my servants to read out Imperial Father’s rewards one by one, telling her exactly how much each was worth. I wanted her to understand that the things Imperial Father had given me were enough for me to enjoy endless luxury in the Princess’ Mansion.

“The master of the inner palace is surnamed Sun? If you like to think so, then by all means, think it. However, I wonder if it is the ‘Sun’ of Noble Consort Sun, or the ‘Sun’ of Beauty Sun? Noble Consort Sun is getting old, after all. She hasn’t been able to secure Imperial Father’s heart in over a decade. No wonder the Sun Clan is so anxious. What a bunch of useless trash! Hahahaha!”

I laughed arrogantly as I departed.

Zhao Mo’er glared at me with fury.

She knew perfectly well that I was sowing discord, yet she couldn’t help herself. She turned around and immediately went to cause trouble for the newly titled Beauty Sun.

By the time Noble Consort Sun arrived, Beauty Sun was already on the ground, having been kicked several times.

She hurriedly pulled back the frantic Zhao Mo’er, rebuking her and asking if she had lost her mind.

Zhao Mo’er wailed, “Mother, when will we ever see the end of this? I’m so tired.”

Noble Consort Sun held Zhao Mo’er, her gaze dark and ominous.

“Soon, my sweet Mo’er. Mother will not let you suffer any more grievances.”
