Chapter 7
Seemingly sensing Yu Qi’s hostile gaze, Yu Lengye frowned. Who had the nerve to stare at him like that?
Then came a sharp smack.
It successfully diverted Yu Lengye’s attention.
Under his astonished gaze, Bai Nianqiu slapped the desk and shot to her feet.
“Who said you could drink that?!”
Her eyes reddened as she slipped straight into character.
A short distance away, the icy look in Yu Qi’s eyes instantly faded. Without betraying a thing, he returned to his seat.
“It’s just milk tea. Do you have to make such a fuss?” Yu Lengye had never known Bai Nianqiu to dare speak to him like this.
Wasn’t she supposed to keep fawning over him to win his attention and affection?
“What do you know? You don’t understand anything!” she said.
Yu Lengye: Then what exactly am I supposed to understand???
The usual arrogance was gone from Bai Nianqiu’s exquisite little face. Now it was full of hurt, and a mist of tears veiled her round eyes.
Yu Lengye had never seen her like this. For one brief moment, he actually felt guilty, though even he couldn’t understand why.
“I’ll buy you another one, all right?” He pressed a hand to his temple, sounding exasperated.
B couldn’t bear to watch any longer. Back when Bai Nianqiu liked Yu Lengye, everything about him had seemed wonderful to her too. Why did he look more and more like a scumbag now?
“How can you replace it? That milk tea was…” Before B could finish, C quickly clapped a hand over her mouth.
Yu Lengye sensed something was wrong. “Oh? It was what?”
“Don’t ask. You wouldn’t understand.” Bai Nianqiu tugged at B’s sleeve and shook her head.
Again! What was he not understanding? What was the damned reason?
Yu Lengye was inwardly going mad, but his pride as Young Master Ye of the foremost of the Four Great Families kept him from simply asking, not with all these people watching as though enjoying a show.
Seething with frustration, he turned and left.
Finally, he’d pissed off. Bai Nianqiu let out a breath.
Everyone else in the class knew exactly what was going on with that milk tea. They just weren’t telling him.
There was something wonderfully satisfying about the entire class being in on the secret while the insufferably arrogant Yu Lengye was kept in the dark.
Bai Muxia sighed. Once again, he wondered whether he really wanted to marry his precious little sister off to that charming little idiot.
As the ABC trio gently consoled her, Bai Nianqiu stole a glance at Yu Qi. She wondered whether the big shot was pleased with her performance.
Yu Qi’s feelings were complicated.
He had instinctively overlooked it earlier, but Bai Nianqiu really was Yu Lengye’s official fiancee.
Which made her his future sister-in-law.
Whatever else happened, if she was going to be Yu Lengye’s woman, he would do better to stay away from her.
He was going to leave the Yu family. He couldn’t afford to give anyone a hold over him.
It would be better for both of them.
The afternoon classes passed quickly. Near dismissal, rain began pouring down outside.
The young masters and misses in the classroom naturally had no need to worry about whether they had brought umbrellas. They all had private cars to take them home. Such worldly concerns could hardly distract them from their studies.
Bai Nianqiu was wondering who had occupied this body before she jumped ahead to eighteen. When she thought of its original owner, her head began to ache. Then what was she? Some wandering ghost sent in to fix things after the original owner made a mess?
At the sound of the rain, she simply abandoned that upsetting line of thought.
She wondered whether Yu Qi had an umbrella. The Yu family’s driver was a terrible snob. He certainly wouldn’t give Yu Qi a ride home too.
When school ended, Bai Nianqiu deliberately sent the ABC trio ahead. She stayed behind, pretending to do homework while secretly watching Yu Qi.
He was on cleaning duty today and was wiping the blackboard.
The tall young man had his back to her. Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and two long legs made even more perfectly proportioned by his uniform trousers.
Sitting in the last row, Bai Nianqiu was practically drooling.
If Yu Qi had attended an ordinary school, he would have won the hearts of countless girls, and probably boys too.
Unfortunately, this was Skechers Academy, where family background and net worth counted as good looks.
Yu Qi had long since felt Bai Nianqiu’s burning gaze. He didn’t know why she had stayed behind.
If this had been the old Bai Nianqiu, he would have been certain she was plotting something nasty against him again.
But after everything that had happened today, he could no longer figure her out.
