Chapter 6
“Xia, my dear, do I need to point out that you’re looking at me very strangely?”
Yu Lengye propped his chin on one hand and poked his childhood friend’s hand with the other.
Ever since he had woken up, Bai Muxia had kept looking as though he wanted to say something but couldn’t. Combined with the strange looks from everyone around them, it was getting on his nerves.
“Did you and Qiuqiu have a fight?” Bai Muxia asked gently.
“That pain in the… ahem. Bai Nianqiu? I haven’t even spoken to her today.”
Yu Lengye thought for a moment, then his expression abruptly changed. “Don’t tell me she’s been picking on my little slave again.”
“Little slave” was Yu Lengye’s pet name for Ye Xinyuran.
Seeing that all he cared about was Ye Xinyuran, with no concern for Bai Nianqiu at all, Bai Muxia pressed his lips together and said nothing.
On the way here, he had heard that Bai Nianqiu had fallen for Yu Qi instead. He hadn’t been willing to believe it.
Now that he thought about it, Yu Qi wasn’t bad. At least the boy knew to buy Bai Muxia’s little sister milk tea.
And Yu Lengye? All he thought about was playing master and servant with Ye Xinyuran.
Hah. Asshole.
One look at Bai Muxia’s face told Yu Lengye he was angry again.
His childhood friend was great in every way, except that anything involving his little sister made him lose his temper.
The more Yu Lengye thought about it, the more convinced he was that Bai Nianqiu was a troublemaker. She was always making her brother angry.
Entirely unaware that he was the culprit, Young Master Yu was once again fretting over how to cheer up his childhood friend.
After class, Yu Lengye deigned to walk over to Bai Nianqiu’s desk.
B poked her in the waist. “Young Master Ye’s here.”
Bai Nianqiu glanced at him.
She had to admit there was no trace left of the little New Year-picture boy she had known.
He was tall, over 1.8 meters by her estimate. The school uniform showed off his broad shoulders and narrow waist perfectly.
Unlike Yu Qi’s fine, androgynous beauty, he had deep-set, sharply chiseled features.
It was just that his eyes had a certain adolescent delusion of grandeur…
The look practically said, I’m the greatest man alive. How much longer are you going to stare at this handsome face, idiot?
Already, at his tender age, he was showing the makings of a domineering CEO.
Bai Nianqiu secretly compared him with the twenty-six-year-old Yu Qi.
Yu Qi still won hands down. Yu Lengye’s presence was too showy. It lacked Yu Qi’s quiet, restrained power to overwhelm.
To be fair, comparing eighteen-year-old Yu Lengye with twenty-six-year-old Yu Qi was a little unfair.
“What do you want?” She made no effort to sound pleasant.
“Have you been picking on my little slave again?”
Holy shit, Bai Nianqiu thought. He’s only eighteen, and he’s already into master-servant role-play???
When she said nothing, Yu Lengye took it as confirmation.
“Aren’t you done making trouble? Is this really necessary?”
He glanced back at Bai Muxia. Seeing his friend watching them, he had no choice but to lean closer to Bai Nianqiu and speak quietly.
Honestly, it wasn’t intimidating in the slightest.
She gave him a look that said he needed his head examined.
“Stop bothering her. What’s the point? I’ll still marry you for our families’ alliance anyway. What have you got to be jealous about?”
After that long speech, he was a little thirsty. Seeing Bai Nianqiu look as though she had just had a revelation, he decided he had finally made her understand. He casually picked up a cup of milk tea from the desk and gave this “junk food” a disdainful look.
Oh, well. It would do.
Bai Nianqiu was still absorbed in the discovery that Yu Lengye was already a scumbag at eighteen. By the time she noticed,
MY! MILK! TEA!!!
Yu Qi had just finished speaking with a teacher. He turned and saw Bai Nianqiu, who had so recently declared her love for him at the top of her lungs, whispering intimately with his so-called brother.
Wait. That milk tea in his hand looked familiar.
Anger welled in Yu Qi’s eyes, a cold gleam flashing through their dark depths.
Very good. She had turned straight around and used his gift to curry favor with Yu Lengye.
All that talk of loving him. Just as he had thought, it was all a lie.
Even sitting in the last row, Bai Nianqiu could feel the chill in Yu Qi’s gaze.
Had the Yu family secretly gone bankrupt without her knowing, to the point that they couldn’t even afford a cup of milk tea?
Otherwise, what was with that “I’ve never tasted anything so delicious” look on Yu Lengye’s face?!
