Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The evening breeze stirred a faint itch in my heart. I couldn’t help but reach out, gently caressing the face of the man before me.
His eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Yet he remained rooted to the spot, motionless.
His dark eyes were deep as ink, reflecting my expression, which bordered on infatuation.
His brow arched slightly.
Just as my finger slid down the bridge of his high nose, about to touch the peak of his lip-
The man suddenly laughed.
Then, he raised his hand and slowly, deliberately, caught my wrist.
“Wen Ning, sister-in-law.”
I froze.
Under the drowning moonlight, he looked at me with curved eyes.
His voice was low, raspy, and teasing:
“If you don’t stop now, my brother’s going to smash a wine bottle over my face.”
I was completely stunned.
Following his meaningful gaze, I stiffly turned my head.
Only then did I see Jiang Xu standing at the terrace entrance. I had no idea how long he’d been there.
His features were hidden in the shadows, looking indescribably cold and dark.
He seemed to be the Jiang Xu I was familiar with.
Then… who was the person in front of me?
I was utterly bewildered.
Jiang Xu walked in at a leisurely pace.
He first draped the coat he was carrying over my shoulders before glancing up at the other man.
I heard Jiang Xu call out in a cold voice:
“Jiang Chi.”
“Don’t you have your own clothes?”
“Why are you wearing mine?”
The man let out a chuckle. Only then did I realize he was indeed wearing the jacket I had bought for Jiang Xu.
No wonder I had mistaken him.
“This one looks good.”
“It hurt my heart a little to see you toss it into the recycling bin so casually, so I just picked it up.”
He curled his lips nonchalantly and looked at the cold-faced Jiang Xu.
“I think it fits me quite well.”
“Right, Brother?”
It seemed that from the day Jiang Chi appeared, everything suddenly began to change drastically.
Jiang Xu’s face darkened, and he didn’t bother to respond to this habitually shiftless younger brother of his.
He looked down and grabbed my wrist with significant force.
He practically dragged me to his side.
“…You can even mistake your own husband?”
“So stupid.”
Jiang Xu sighed as he reached up to ruffle my hair.
He didn’t expect me to suddenly dodge.
His hand paused in mid-air, and his brows furrowed instinctively.
But I was oblivious.
My eyes were already fixed solely on the boy leaning against the railing, watching the moon.
Jiang Xu stared at me, frowning.
He should be very familiar with this kind of look.
When he used to steal glances at Wen Lin, he had that same dazed expression.
As long as that person was there, everything else would instantly lose its color.
He understood it better than anyone.
But Jiang Xu didn’t take my slight abnormality seriously.
He thought I was just too shocked by seeing his twin brother for the first time.
That’s why I was staring-staring incessantly.
I let Jiang Xu lead me away obediently, remaining silent the whole way.
It wasn’t until we sat back down in the private booth that I leaned close to his ear.
I asked softly:
“How come I never knew you had a twin brother?”
The music was loud and boisterous, so Jiang Xu didn’t catch the imperceptible excitement in my voice.
He leaned against my shoulder, idly playing with my fingers.
He answered dismissively:
“Ah Chi?”
“After my parents separated, my dad took him abroad to live the high life.”
“Now that my dad’s dead and he’s out of money, he finally came back to find us.”
I froze, my palms clenching as I couldn’t help but press further:
“So… he’s always been abroad before this?”
Perhaps because my tone had suddenly become urgent, Jiang Xu arched an eyebrow and glanced at me.
Then he continued:
“…You’re quite curious about my brother.”
I paused for a moment.
“What’s wrong with that?”
I curved my eyes and smiled:
“Don’t you always ask about my sister?”
