Chapter 2

“No one would mistake Wen Lin for her defective sister.”

“Except you, Jiang Xu.”

“You’re supposed to be the White Wolf Beastman with the highest acuity during training.”

“How could you be so stupid when it comes to matters of the heart and mistake your own savior?”

“And I’m not just saying this, but with Wen Ning’s low-level Spiritual Power, she wouldn’t even be worthy of a match with you if she worked at it for another fifty years-”

Returning to the party after taking a phone call, I heard Jiang Xu’s friends venting their frustrations and lamenting on his behalf.

He, however, looked completely indifferent, leaning lazily against the sofa while flicking a lighter.

He kept his eyes downcast, watching the flame flare up and die out with cold detachment.

Finally, he gave them a faint reply:

“Who doesn’t have a few regrets in life?”

“Anyway, we’ve already registered the marriage. What’s the point of regretting it now?”

“We’ll just… make do.”

That day happened to be our first wedding anniversary.

I suddenly realized why Jiang Xu had acted so strangely when we got our marriage certificate.

It was because I wasn’t the savior he had been dreaming of.

It was because I was too mediocre, leaving him with no choice but to mock himself in front of his friends, saying he was just making do.

The lights were dizzying.

I stood silently outside the private booth, watching Jiang Xu laugh as he clinked glasses with a friend again.

He tilted his head back, and a few drops of wine escaped his lips, trailing down his chin and over his slender neck.

A faint pink bite mark was visible at his collarbone.

That was my mark.

In the heat of passion, one bites down hard on their partner’s skin to leave a deep imprint.

From then on, that person belongs only to you.

Ha.

Unfortunately, my Spiritual Power really is quite weak.

Even a mark made with all my strength ended up looking so shallow and insignificant.

I closed my eyes, an inexplicable irritability rising in my heart.

Perhaps it was because it was too noisy here.

Or perhaps, I suddenly didn’t want to face Jiang Xu anymore.

I didn’t go back into the booth, choosing instead to walk out to the quiet balcony to clear my head.

-Make do.

As I leaned against the railing in a daze, those two words surfaced in my mind again.

I suddenly remembered our wedding day.

Seeing Jiang Xu’s cold expression, the words “make do” had crossed my mind back then as well.

-“It doesn’t matter if it’s not him.”

-“I can make do with this face.”

It was only later, through living together day and night, that our lives became intertwined. When hair becomes tangled, it’s inevitable for some messy feelings to grow along with it.

I pulled at the corner of my mouth in a self-deprecating smirk and, without warning, tossed my ring over the edge.

But a quick hand caught it.

“Wen Ning, are you drunk?”

A Beastman’s reflexes were indeed agile.

The diamond ring was safe and sound, returned to the palm of my hand.

I stared down blankly, then suddenly let out a laugh, a shallow dimple appearing on my cheek.

The newcomer raised an eyebrow, his tone somewhat exasperated:

“Tsk, you really are wasted.”

“How is your tolerance still this bad…”

That large, fluffy, silver-white tail swayed freely in the midsummer night breeze.

It was dazzling and arrogant.

I really couldn’t stand the sight of it.

So, I lunged into his arms and mischievously grabbed that wagging tail.

I had caught him by his weakness; he froze instantly.

I let out a triumphant snicker.

Against my ear was the White Wolf Beastman’s usual vigorous, powerful heartbeat.

As I held him, I suddenly let out a soft sigh.

“Jiang Xu.”

I closed my eyes and said to him seriously:

“Whenever you don’t want to make do anymore, let’s separate.”

As fate would have it, she was matched with my husband’s twin brother.

Upon learning this, Jiang Xu held me...
