Chapter 3

“Stop arguing and eat first.”

Sister River, the water ghost, floated over and looked at me with a motherly expression.

“Lingzhu, I made you braised pork, garlic broccoli, and crucian carp tofu soup.

“Go eat first. You still have to open for business this afternoon.”

Sister River was a ghost I had picked up, and she was the most unique out of all the ghosts I had ever met.

She had no memory. She didn’t remember who she was or how she died; she had forgotten everything about her past.

I found her by the river. She was standing blankly on the side of the road, her body covered in water weeds.

The first thing she said when she saw me was, “Do you know who I am?”

Since she didn’t know her own name and I had found her by the river, we all called her Sister River.

Sister River loved cooking and cleaning. Thanks to her, my house was kept spotless and pristine.

She even prepared three meals a day for me. I suspected she must have been a very doting mother when she was alive.

Eating with a heavy heart, I finished my meal and flipped the sign at the door to “Open.”

The four ghosts also took their respective posts, returning to their themed rooms within the Haunted House.

The first theme was Sister River’s responsibility.

Sister River clearly had her own ideas for this room; many of the items were purchased only because she insisted on them.

The room was decorated to look like an old-fashioned two-bedroom apartment. There was a small living room, an old-style kitchen, and a crudely renovated bathroom containing a weathered ceramic bathtub.

A few strands of water weeds floated in the tub, and a single candle was lit in front of the mirror above the sink.

The flickering candlelight made the already eerie room feel even more terrifying.

A key was hidden in each room; only by finding the key could a guest open the door to the next section.

Jiang Beizhou was a very famous science blogger on a certain platform, but what made him popular wasn’t his educational content, but his extraordinary looks.

With beautiful almond eyes, fair skin, and a clean, gentle aura, he looked exactly like the first love of countless girls’ dreams. He carried himself with a lazy, warm tenderness, much like sunlight.

He was livestreaming today when he noticed many fans typing in the chat, wanting him to debunk a Haunted House.

“Blogger, can you go livestream at the Haunted House in Happy Amusement Park? I heard the proprietress is a beautiful young lady!”

“Yeah, yeah! Blogger, I went to that Haunted House last week and it was terrifying. I honestly felt like the ghosts there were real!”

“I want to see a Haunted House mystery reveal. Everyone who wants to see it, spam ‘1’ with me.”

Seeing the screen fill up with 1s, Jiang Beizhou gave a helpless yet gentle smile.

He had to listen to his fans’ opinions. He packed his things, grabbed his phone, and set off.

“Hello, welcome to Maoshan Ghost House!”

I looked up and flashed the handsome man a standard eight-tooth smile. Then, I saw a flurry of comments popping up on the phone screen he was holding:

“Holy crap, the Ghost House Sister is so pretty!”

???

What was going on?

Jiang Beizhou gave me an apologetic smile.

“Hello, would it be alright if I livestreamed your Haunted House?”
