After I roared at him and angrily admitted, with nothing left to lose, that I was an Omega, his expression turned grim.

What he said only ignited my temper too.

“What would I want them for? I don’t want anyone!” I said through clenched teeth.

Lu Ye calmed down for a moment, though the position in which he held me remained suggestive.

One of his legs was wedged between mine, my waist pressed to the windowsill.

He leaned dangerously close. “Wen Xing, why did you forge your medical report? Why did you deceive everyone?”

“None of your business!” I snapped.

Lu Ye raised an eyebrow. “Fine. You don’t need me meddling, right? Then handle it yourself. I’ll leave.”

He let me go, though he knew perfectly well I couldn’t stand.

A second later, what remained of my reason made me grab the hem of his shirt.

Humbled and tentative, I breathed out a gust of hot air, teetering on the edge of madness. “Don’t.”

I’d forged my medical report so I could attend the University of Aeronautics and Astronautics with Lu Ye.

Everyone thought I was an Alpha. Even my parents believed it.

In a society where Omegas were rare, they were expected to bear the burden of reproduction, so society placed countless restrictions on them.

They couldn’t attend sports academies, military academies, or aeronautics and astronautics universities. They couldn’t become athletes.

But ever since I was little, I’d dreamed of flying.

During summer vacation in high school, my best friend Lu Ye differentiated before I did.

Of course, he differentiated into an elite, top-tier Alpha, stronger than ordinary Alphas both physically and in the potency of his pheromones.

Lu Ye had hit odds of one in a million.

Exceptional Alphas like him became leaders in almost every field. One medical report instantly turned Lu Ye into the hottest prospect around.

Military academies, sports academies, and all sorts of prestigious schools scrambled to recruit him.

Ten days after he differentiated, it happened to me too.

But I became the one thing I least wanted to face: an Omega.

An Omega seen as weak, useful only for bearing children.

An Omega who could only exist as an Alpha’s dependent.

I plunged into hellish panic.

I had no idea how to face my parents’ expectations or the strange looks from my classmates.

Messages kept chiming in our class group chat as everyone eagerly discussed their secondary genders.

I clutched my hair in anguish. God, you were so unfair.

Even an utterly ordinary Beta would have been fine. Why?

Why did I have to be an Omega?

What would Lu Ye think of me?

What would everyone think of me?

If Lu Ye learned I was a weak little Omega, would he still want to be my best friend?

I locked myself in my room for three days and three nights.

On the fourth day, after finally coming out, I went to beg my older cousin, who worked at a hospital.

I pleaded with her to forge my medical report. I couldn’t let my secondary gender stand between me and my dream.

Ever since I differentiated, I’d been injecting powerful suppressants to hold back the heats I should have experienced.

Defying my body like that only made the eventual heat strike harder.

I remembered every word my cousin had said. Each time she gave me the strong suppressants, she warned me.

If I kept suppressing my heats, the likely result was that one day they would become impossible to control, and I would need an Alpha to permanently mark me.

Worse, I might develop a pheromone disorder that would affect the rest of my life.

My best friend pinned me against the windowsill when my heat struck without warning.

My whole body went weak, my breaths burning, like a fish dragged onto shore and left gasping for air.
