Chapter 6
Chapter 6
I went back to rest, and in the afternoon, I went to pick up Lin Zhilan from school.
Lin Zhilan looked at the finger marks on my neck, hesitating several times before finally reaching out her soft fingers to touch my skin.
“Auntie, what happened to your neck? Does it hurt? Let me blow on it for you.”
She pursed her little lips and blew gently on the bruises.
My heart softened completely.
How could such a sweet child grow up to be the next tragic female lead?
How could she fall for a cold, emotionally abusive man like a moth to a flame, only to be tormented physically and mentally before dying during childbirth?
I knew I might have to leave her soon.
But for now, I wanted to fulfill my duty and do everything in my power to help her.
I knelt down, looked into her eyes with a gentle but serious expression, hoping my words would be etched into her heart.
“A madman choked my neck today, Lanlan. And because he’s a madman, no one can control him.”
“If you ever meet a madman like that in the future, you must stay far away from him.”
“Because that kind of person is capable of both cold violence and physical abuse, and they simply don’t listen to reason.”
“He only lives in his own world, judging others by his own twisted logic.”
“In his world, everyone should revolve around him and meet his expectations. If someone is even slightly different, he thinks they are in the wrong.”
“Without power, such a person is just a lunatic. With power, it’s even worse-he becomes a tyrant who abuses his authority.”
“No one can save him, and you should never be conceited enough to think you can.”
“Don’t try to be a savior. Having self-awareness is a virtue, and so is respecting the boundaries of others.”
Lin Zhilan gave a small nod, though I wasn’t sure if she truly understood.
She wrapped her arms around my neck and rested her soft cheek against my shoulder.
“Auntie, you seem different than before.”
“Do you like it?”
“I do.”
“That’s good. I like the current me, too. I hope you’ll always respect your own feelings like this. If you like something, accept it; if you don’t, have the courage to say so. You were your mother’s precious baby. Now that she’s gone, you must cherish yourself just as much as she did.”
I sent a recording of this conversation to Lin Zheng’s assistant.
Despite Wen Min’s persistence in staying at the Lin family home, she didn’t even have Lin Zheng’s personal contact information-only his assistant’s number.
It didn’t take long for a reply to come back.
It was written in Lin Zheng’s cold tone.
“Why are you telling the child these things?”
“Because Lanlan will grow up eventually. If she chooses not to have a partner, that’s fine. But if she does, I want her to know that she should never pick a piece of trash like you!”
There was no further response from that side.
For several days, Lin Zheng did not return home.
Instead, his assistant came by with a stack of documents regarding Wen Su’s assets, including her will.
Likely acting on Lin Zheng’s instructions, the assistant added a pointed remark.
“Miss Wen, your sister’s will does not mention your name. You have no right to any part of Wen Su’s estate.”
