Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Li Pan’s indescribable parents had now moved their slap-Li-Pan routine into the police station.
Pinned down by her father, Li Pan was slapped back and forth across the face. “You little beast. Embarrassing yourself wasn’t enough, was it? You had to drag your parents’ shame all the way here too…”
I stared at them with all the contempt my infant eyes could muster. Aside from abusing your daughter, what else do you people know how to do?
Li Pan’s mother lay on the floor, throwing a tantrum. “Goddamn all of you, ganging up on my family! My youngest son still has to go to school in the village, and now you’ve trampled our family’s reputation into the dirt. I’m already this old, I might as well die, boohoohoohoo…”
Oh. They also knew how to have sons.
Fu Yuantao’s mother looked like no pushover either. One glance at her clothes told you her family was a whole level better off than Li Pan’s. She pointed at Li Pan with a chubby hand wearing a jade bangle. “Where did this cheap little bastard crawl out from, falsely accusing my Yuantao? My boy was studying just fine, and she was the one who shamelessly threw herself at him. Who knows whose wild seed that brat is.”
Li Pan’s hair was a mess around her temples, and both her cheeks were red and swollen. But her gaze was firm and cold. Over her furious father, she locked straight onto Fu Yuantao’s face.
That yellow-haired man with the completely indifferent look on his face-uh, boy-was probably my biological father.
I looked over expectantly, hoping the System would give me an explanation.
Yellow-hair lazily pulled out a cigarette. “What’s that got to do with me?”
A young officer stopped him just in time. “Smoking is prohibited inside the police station.”
I looked at the police with renewed anticipation. Logically speaking, this was the part where they should begin investigating, run a DNA test, and shatter the arrogant act Yellow-hair and Yellow-hair’s mother were putting on-
“Li Pan, this is the third time you’ve filed a false report.” An older officer walked in, his expression displeased as he spoke.
A false report?
Li Pan broke free from her father. “I have never filed a false report. You’re the ones who-”
“I’ve seen plenty of little girls like you. Don’t study properly at school, start dating, get yourself knocked up by accident, then try to pin it on someone else.” The officer sounded even more arrogant than Yellow-hair.
“Bullshit!” The frail-looking Li Pan burst out with a national treasure of a curse. “You said the same thing last time, and the time before that it was you too… Officer Chen Guolin, what gives you the right to refuse to open a case?!”
“Well, well, quite the loud voice you’ve got.” Officer Chen mocked her in a rough voice. “The first time you came in to report it, you couldn’t even speak coherently. I asked you about the case, and you couldn’t explain it clearly. I asked you for evidence, and you couldn’t produce a thing. So tell me, on what grounds was I supposed to open a case?”
Hey! In that kind of state, shouldn’t you suspect the victim had just suffered an assault and wasn’t mentally stable? How could she possibly present evidence in a calm, organized way?
Yellow-hair, whose name was Fu Yuantao, stood off to the side bouncing his leg, as if none of this had anything to do with him.
Li Pan trembled all over, but she couldn’t get a word out.
Her father, however, looked like he had suddenly found a common enemy. He lunged over and grabbed Fu Yuantao, yelling, “You think you can screw my daughter for free? You made a life, and now you think you can just wipe your ass and run?”
Li Pan’s mother charged over too, and soon she was brawling with Fu Yuantao’s mother.
Officer Chen scrambled in a panic and finally managed to pull them apart.
The commotion drew clerks from the neighboring office, who gathered around to watch and tossed out snide remarks one after another. “That’s her, the one from Maocheng Vocational High School who almost strangled her own baby to death.”
“Her? She looks like she’s still in middle school.”
“Middle schooler, my ass. She’s just a shameless, heartless woman!”
Hearing them, Li Pan glared at them fiercely.
The clerks weren’t afraid. One of them glanced at her mockingly. “If you didn’t want the baby, why didn’t you just get an abortion?”
“I didn’t have the money for the surgery. My family, the hospital, and the police station-none of you helped me.” Li Pan gritted her teeth, forcing the words out one by one.
The clerk rolled her eyes. “A used-up slut like you? Who’d want to help you?”
Why did everyone here harbor such malice toward a student? Was there truly no one willing to believe even half a word she said?
An older-looking clerk beside her sighed with endless pity. “Since you’ve already given birth, that child is still a piece of flesh that fell from your own body! How can you be so cruel?”
I stretched my neck, trying to see what kind of saintly Madonna this was, but an infant’s neck had no strength. Even after using every ounce of effort I had, I still couldn’t see her.
Li Pan looked at her coldly. “The people who hurt me could be that cruel. Why can’t I?”
She stared at the crowd making a mess for a while, then pointed at me and shouted,
“She is the evidence.”
Several people quieted down and looked at Li Pan.
“Do a DNA test. She is Fu Yuantao’s child.”
Officer Chen gave a cold laugh. “You think we test just because you say so? Do you know how much a DNA test costs?”
Fu Yuantao’s Mother also turned her face away in disdain.
Li Pan’s parents both looked straight at Officer Chen. “What kind of thing is that? How much does it cost?”
Li Pan ignored them. Her voice carried a coldness that said she was ready to throw everything away. “Fu Yuantao, look at her. Put your hand on your conscience, then say again that you never did anything!”
“It doesn’t matter if you won’t admit it. I’ll pull out your hair and get a genetic test done! I’ll print hundreds of copies of the results and hand them out to every single person in Maocheng County, paste them on every corner of town! I’ll make sure everyone knows exactly what you’ve done!”
I sighed. My god, Mom, you don’t even have the money for an abortion. A forensic test is even more out of the question.
But Fu Yuantao was clearly intimidated by Li Pan’s do-or-die momentum. Fu Yuantao’s Mother was shocked too. “You little girl, you… you don’t plan on getting married anymore?”
Li Pan’s Father instinctively raised his hand to deliver the Eighteen Subduing-Daughter Palms. “You damned girl, where would you get that kind of money?”
Li Pan’s Mother was about to start cursing with a ferocious expression when her eyes suddenly flickered. She finally caught on. “Right, do the test. Ruin your son’s reputation!”
She pointed at Fu Yuantao’s nose and cursed, “It won’t matter even if your uncle works in the county government! I’ll make sure everyone in town knows you went out and made yourself a bastard daughter!”
The bastard daughter herself: Excuse you?
Fu Yuantao’s Mother finally began to panic. She took out her phone, seemingly about to call someone for help. But her Yellow-hair son didn’t give her the chance.
This guy, who looked like he had bullied plenty of people in his time, exploded the second he was threatened. “So what if she’s my seed? What are you gonna do about it?”
“Ding!” The System notification sounded right on cue. “Congratulations, player, on completing the mission: find your biological father. Next, please rely on your tenacious efforts to survive in your current environment.”
I first shuddered in fright, then realized it was this useless System, and a nameless rage shot up inside me. “You dog-ass System! If you’ve got the ability, can you at least give me more information?”
“Player request detected. Initiating background information simulation: 10%, 40%, 70%…”
“Huh? What background simulation?” I was utterly confused.
My clear infant wail drew the adults’ attention. Li Pan’s Mother walked over and thoughtfully gave me two slaps to shut me up.
? Impressive. I’ll give you that…
Before I passed out, I heard Officer Chen’s careless voice.
“This is a civil dispute. You should accept mediation.”

When I opened my eyes, I found I had been reborn in a vocational school bathroom.
