Chapter 1

“Player 1145, congratulations. You have been successfully born. Birthplace: the girls’ restroom on the west side of the third floor of the teaching building at Maocheng Senior Vocational Technical School.

“Your biological mother is Li Pan, nineteen years old and legally an adult. Your biological father is unknown.

“Now, please listen to your first mission: escape your birthplace and survive your biological mother.”

My brain just about exploded. What kind of insane opening was this?

My birth mother was a vocational school student, my birth father was unknown, and I had been born in a bathroom?

Let me sort this out. My brain’s memory was already overflowing…

But time waited for no one.

The skinny girl in front of me had already reached toward my face. In one more second, her hand would close around my neck and completely cut off my only means of interacting with the world.

I flailed my arms with all my strength. A newborn’s strength was nowhere near enough to fight an adult, even if she was a thin, petite vocational school student with dark circles under her sunken eyes and the obvious look of someone malnourished.

She froze, clearly stunned. Those hands, reeking of blood, stopped less than ten centimeters above me. In her deeply sunken eye sockets, I saw something trembling violently.

My mother-Li Pan-obviously panicked. She hurriedly reached out with both hands and clumsily covered my mouth and nose, muffling the sound I was making.

My face turned bright red from being smothered. The lack of oxygen made my arms and legs kick wildly as I tried to break free.

I couldn’t hold on much longer. I could feel the oxygen rapidly draining from my not-yet-fully-developed lungs. In a few more seconds, even if I didn’t die, I’d be suffocated into brain damage…

“Who’s in there?” Through the haze, I heard a woman’s voice outside.

Along with it came hesitant footsteps and the dragging slap of a mop.

It was the cleaner! My crying had alerted her.

Li Pan was clearly startled. At a loss, she panicked so badly that she actually loosened her hold on me.

How could I let such a good chance slip by? In those precious few seconds of survival, I hurriedly took a breath, then cried out loudly again.

No bragging, no exaggeration-when it came to newborn lung capacity, if I claimed second place, no one would dare claim first.

“Why is there a baby in the restroom?” the cleaning auntie said, sounding anxious now. She stepped forward and knocked on the stall door. “Who’s in there?”

I kept wailing. Li Pan was so panicked that her hands and feet were trembling. She hurriedly tried to cover my mouth while also trying to hold the stall door shut. Unfortunately for her, she was too flustered. She didn’t cover my mouth properly, and she didn’t hold the door properly either.

“Who is in there? Open the door!” the auntie’s voice turned stern. She yanked hard at the stall door and shouted, “Someone come here! I think someone gave birth in the restroom!”

At that moment, a crisp bell rang through the teaching area.

Drawing on sixteen years of school experience from my previous life, I determined that it was the vocational school’s end-of-class bell. I heard laughter, chatter, and footsteps in the hallway. A group of girls was heading toward the restroom.

“I heard the class beauty from your class hasn’t come to school for two days. What’s going on?”

“You mean Li Pan? That little vixen? Who knows which guy she’s been fooling around with.”

“Which guy? More like which guys!”

Inside the restroom, the cleaning auntie was still fighting with the stall door. “If you don’t open this door, I’m calling the police!”

Li Pan bit her lip and pulled desperately at the stall door. The old lock was on the verge of falling apart under their struggle.

Finally, with a snap, the rotten screws came loose. The auntie stumbled backward and nearly fell.

The bloody scene inside the stall was laid bare before the group of girls who had just entered the restroom.

I heard one of them scream, “Li Pan! What are you doing here?”

Li Pan sat in a pool of blood, her face deathly pale, drained of all color.

I was still lying on the floor, waving my arms, while inwardly letting out a long sigh of relief. I had finally clawed my life back.

“Congratulations, Player, on successfully completing your mission. Your next mission is: follow your biological mother and find your biological father.”

“Pah!” I freed up my mouth and spat hard in the direction of the System somewhere in the void.
