Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The Ghost Fiend’s long, cold hand stroked my head, over and over.
…He was using the same right hand that had just crushed a lump of flesh into pulp.
I squeezed my eyes shut, desperately suppressing my tremors.
I forced myself to forget that nauseating, horrific sight.
Submissively and obediently, I nodded to him.
Only then did Chi Li hum a satisfied tune and leave.
I heard the door lock click shut.
Only then did I finally let out a sharp breath of relief.
My limbs, which had been tensed this entire time, instantly went limp.
With my back against the door, I slumped weakly to the floor.
The bullet screen before my eyes continued to refresh:
[LOL, the villain is going back to the mortal realm to steal food again.]
[In the past, he used to go to the mortal realm every day to secretly learn culinary skills just to feed the female lead.]
[Since he’s a Ghost Fiend, he can’t stand the sun, so he can only sneak into kitchens at night.]
[He scared that old lady who got up in the middle of the night so badly she thought she’d run into a starving ghost.]
[Fortunately, the villain doesn’t eat old people. He just fiercely snatched a few bowls of warm meat porridge from the stove and swaggered away.]
[Even though the old lady kept her life, Chi Li was so embarrassed at being caught that he threw gold into her pot in a fit of pique. He actually punched a hole right through that rusty thing.]
[How wicked!]
[Uh, wait, did I see that right? Gold?]
[Isn’t that just giving her money? Where exactly is the ‘wicked’ part?]
[The person above is letting their morals follow their eyes again. The villain doesn’t understand human currency. To him, gold is no different from a rock!]
[He was intentionally bullying that old lady!]
[Oh, please. Did you see the old lady getting angry? She was smiling so hard her dentures almost fell out!]
[That’s not how logic works. You can’t say the villain isn’t bad just because the outcome was good!]
The bullet screen suddenly broke into an argument, becoming a chaotic mess.
Amidst the flood of comments debating “whether or not the big villain intentionally bullied the old lady,” I struggled to find any comments regarding my brother.
There were only a few scattered ones.
Mostly lamenting the cruel twists of fate.
[The plot on the villain’s side is a total mess now. The Ghost King isn’t eating people anymore, and he’s not interested in love; he just wants to focus on raising his ‘kitty.’]
[The plot on the male lead’s side is still progressing normally, though.]
[The female lead seems to have seen a vision, making the male lead believe his sister is truly dead. Consumed by grief and rage, he’s now hell-bent on revenge. He’s traveling everywhere with the female lead to slay demons, trying to find traces of the Ghost King.]
[As he spends more time with the female lead, he’s unconsciously becoming attracted to this strong, hardworking junior sister.]
[The male lead doesn’t even realize he’s started slowing his pace to wait for her to catch up.]
[Yeah, when he saw her get injured just now, his brow furrowed deeper than anyone’s. He picked her up and took her to the infirmary without a second thought.]
[Actually, she just accidentally sprained her ankle, but the male lead still carefully bandaged it and gave her instructions. He even spent the whole night making the highest-grade defensive talisman for her.]
[After losing his sister, he’s become extremely sensitive. He treats the slightest disturbance with the utmost caution.]
[Sigh, even though it’s pretty sweet, why do I feel so bad watching this…]
[I feel like the male lead is desperately compensating the female lead as if she were his sister.]
[And back then, the spiritual power the sister used all her strength to release really did ring the Wind Chime.]
[But the male lead was so overcome with grief that he thought it was just the sound of the wind.]
[It’s such a pity.]
[Why are he and his sister always just one step off…]
[Stop it, you guys. The official pairing is the best. It’s good that the sister is gone; she shouldn’t come back to interfere!]
They continued to scroll incessantly.
But my mind lingered on that one regretful comment for a long time.
Ah.
So, my brother did hear it.
My final cry for help.
What a shame.
The male lead is destined to fall in love with the heaven-sent female lead.
Pei Yunmiao must disappear completely from Pei Jinzhuo’s world.
No matter how I struggle, the ending will not change.
