After Pei Zhan went to sleep, I pulled out my phone and took a look at Taobao.

My bank account held a balance in the high seven figures, yet I still couldn’t bring myself to place an order for a ninety-nine-yuan ring.

As I hesitated, I remembered the way he had belittled me in his friends’ group chat, along with the unfamiliar woman’s perfume clinging to him.

I immediately closed Taobao and switched over to Pinduoduo.

After carefully choosing a 9.9-yuan ring, I finally went to sleep satisfied.

I set the proposal for Pei Zhan’s birthday.

I decorated his seaside villa for the party.

To make the proposal perfect, I secretly notified every one of his friends.

“You are all cordially invited to Pei Zhan’s birthday party this Saturday. You can also witness our relationship finally reaching its happy ending~”

Not long after I sent the message to everyone, I received a string of question marks in response.

I picked the biggest blabbermouth among his friends and replied:

“That’s right, I’m planning to propose to Ah Zhan at his birthday party (cute). Remember to keep it a secret for me~”

That blabbermouth certainly lived up to his reputation.

The night before his birthday, Pei Zhan’s expression as he looked at me was incredibly complicated.

All evening, he hovered around me, repeatedly starting to speak and then stopping himself.

I knew he wanted me to ask what was wrong so he could casually steer the conversation toward how he wasn’t considering marriage.

But I couldn’t play along.

I rose onto my tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek, then said coyly, “Darling, want to?”

Pei Zhan stiffened. He had always accepted such advances without refusal, but this time, he pushed me away for the first time.

“Haven’t you been saying you’ve been really tired lately?”

I nodded, letting disappointment show on my face.

“All right, then. I’ll go to bed first.”

I pulled up the covers, settled in, and quickly closed my eyes.

About ten minutes later, the room filled with soft rustling sounds.

I secretly opened my eyes. Pei Zhan was bent over, rummaging through my vanity.

A few minutes later, he picked up his phone and left the room.

I got out of bed and went to the door. Pei Zhan was sitting in the living room, talking to someone on the phone.

“I couldn’t find a ring anywhere at home. Are you sure she’s proposing tomorrow?”

I didn’t know what the person on the other end said, but Pei Zhan’s irritation became obvious to the naked eye.

“If she really dares to pressure me into marriage in front of everyone, I’ll break up with her on the spot and make her lose face in front of them all.”

After hearing that, I returned to bed and lay down comfortably.
