Chapter 5
Chapter 5
As the guest of honor, Chi Ye was whisked away the moment he walked in.
Under the dim, amber lighting, I spotted a literal mountain of gifts.
Good heavens!
If I flattened all those boxes and sold them as scrap, I’d make at least a few hundred bucks!
A poor person like me truly hadn’t seen the world.
Words couldn’t even describe how shocking the scene was.
Scavenging for trash was out of the question for now.
But that was fine; there were other ways to strike it rich.
Since everyone here had been invited by Chi Ye, most assumed that everyone else shared a similar social status.
Consequently, no one said a word when they noticed me quietly hovering near their seats.
“My dad said that stock is only good for short-term growth. Sell it now before you’re stuck with it.”
I pricked up my ears while my fingers hovered over my brokerage account.
Click: Sell.
“That one over there is making a big move soon. The price is low now, but it’s about to double.”
I hurriedly clicked: Buy.
I had started researching stock investments back in my freshman year.
However, my starting capital was simply too small.
No matter how diligent I was, the information gap still existed.
Over the past two years, besides playing the stock market, I had worked all sorts of part-time jobs.
My savings had reached nearly two hundred thousand yuan.
It still wasn’t enough. Only those who have been truly poor know just how important money is.
I eavesdropped on their conversations.
After a flurry of trades, I let out a long sigh of relief.
My eyes drifted back to Chi Ye’s mountain of gifts. They had to be worth a fortune.
If only he’d decide he didn’t want them for some inexplicable reason.
I even had an oversized trash bag tucked away in my backpack.
Lost in my fantasies, a figure suddenly appeared in front of me.
Chi Ye sat down by my side.
“What are you looking at?”
My brain glitched, and I blurted out, “Looking at your…”
The word ‘gifts’ was on the tip of my tongue, but I pivoted instantly. “…back. Your silhouette.”
Then I added, “It’s really handsome.”
Whatever Chi Ye was about to say got stuck in his throat, and the tips of his ears turned slightly red.
[Hahaha, she’s so bold! She’s got Chi Ye hooked again.]
[Chi Ye: Being a man is so hard. I was afraid she wouldn’t sleep if I didn’t invite her, but now that she’s here, she’s been dazed into an idiot by my charm.]
[LMAO, he’s the one who’s dazed, isn’t he? One sentence from our Little Sister is enough to make him go home and do a deep-dive reading comprehension analysis all night.]
Ji Yan came over and patted him on the shoulder. “We’re short two players. Want to go a round?”
He casually asked me, “Do you know how to play?”
I nodded. “A little.”
Ji Yan said, “Come on then. We’ll carry you to a higher rank.”
Fifteen minutes passed.
My score was 21-0-18.
When the victory music blared, Chi Ye and Ji Yan turned their heads in unison to look at me.
I shrugged. “Luck. Pure luck.”
Ji Yan challenged, “Again.”
Thirteen minutes later, I was 17-1-10.
They both raised their eyebrows.
I gave a sheepish smile. “You guys have great teamwork.”
“One more.”
In less than ten minutes, the opposing team surrendered.
I was 12-0-8.
The two of them stared at each other.
I said, “Ha, thanks for letting me win.”
Ji Yan praised, “You’re seriously incredible.”
Back in high school, I was desperate for money. Seeing the boys in class obsessed with this game, I decided to look into it.
I found it quite simple-anyone with hands could play it.
So, after finishing my homework, I worked as a gaming companion.
During the summer after graduation, I was a streaming assistant by day and a cold-blooded killing machine in the jungle by night.
I remembered a certain high-roller who had even hired me for two months straight.
Snapping back to reality, Ji Yan had already pulled out his phone. “Add me as a friend.”
The corners of Chi Ye’s mouth pulled downward.
[Hahaha, he’s jealous.]
[What’s there to be jealous of? Ji Yan only has eyes for the game!]
[You don’t understand. If they can play games together today, they’ll be kissing tomorrow.]
[Chi Ye’s mental progression: Adding as a game friend → Late-night duo queue → Online dating turns into a real-life meeting (Earthquake in his pupils).]
[Upstairs, are you Chi Ye’s alt account?]
