Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Quite a few people had come for the birthday banquet.
Behind me, someone had already recognized Lin Wan.
Then, upon seeing that I had the exact same face as her, they rubbed their eyes just as Chi Ye had done earlier.
“I’m afraid to open my eyes. I hope this is just a hallucination.”
“I told you we shouldn’t have gone to an 8:00 AM class. I must be going crazy, right?”
I stepped to the side to let them pass first.
Lin Wan arched her brows triumphantly and walked up to a silver-haired boy. “Ji Yan, I’ll go in with you.”
The boy named Ji Yan was handing over his invitation. He glanced sideways. “You don’t have an invitation, do you?”
Lin Wan froze.
The boys behind them exchanged looks, clearly enjoying the drama.
Ji Yan’s expression was cold. “Even if you did, I wouldn’t want to go in with you.”
[Ji Yan! I declare you my spokesperson!]
[Ji ‘Purebred Straight Man’ Yan: Don’t even try to associate with me.]
[Ji Yan has nothing but games in his eyes-no beauties. He’s not falling for that.]
[Laughing so hard I’m wheezing. So Lin Wan really doesn’t have an invitation?]
I silently watched the Danmaku and looked back down at my phone.
Chi Ye had sent a message three minutes ago: “Forgot one thing. Are you here?”
“Downstairs.”
“Okay, I’m coming down.”
[Ooh, look at him. He might as well just broadcast ‘I’m coming to pick you up’ on the big screen.]
[He intentionally didn’t send our Little Sister an invitation just so he could come pick up his wife personally. Chi ‘Scheming Boy’ Ye, you deserve to have a girlfriend.]
As everyone else began to enter one after another, the look on Lin Wan’s face became hard to maintain.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she waved. “Chi Ye! I’m over here.”
Her voice instinctively took on a high-pitched, cutesy tone.
[Huh? No way? Did Chi Ye really invite Lin Wan?]
[Sorry, I can’t ship this anymore. Little Sister, get away from that trashy guy and that fake girl!]
[Wait! Don’t panic yet. Let’s see what Chi Ye says!]
Chi Ye seemed a bit different today.
But I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was.
He had one hand in his pocket, looking casual and relaxed.
His gaze fell on Lin Wan without a hint of emotion.
After his eyes scanned the area, he spotted me in the corner.
The corners of his mouth twitched upward almost imperceptibly before quickly flattening back into a straight line.
Keeping a stiff face, he asked, “What are you crouching there for?”
He tilted his chin toward me. “Come here.”
My heart gave a strange little flutter, which I quickly suppressed.
[Chi Ye’s smirk is harder to suppress than a recoil.]
[On the surface: ‘Cold and world-weary’ image. Inside: ‘OMG she’s here’ GIF.]
[What a poser. He’s actually ecstatic inside, isn’t he?]
[Is no one noticing Lin Wan’s expression? It’s like a palette of paint was knocked over on her face.]
Unwilling to give up, she took a step forward. “Chi Ye, I…”
“Who are you?” Chi Ye frowned. “Oh, I don’t know you.”
He turned to the waiter and said, “Don’t let her in.”
Lin Wan: “?”
The crowd of onlookers: “?”
Me: “?”
[Lin Wan had it coming. Think about what she said when she rejected Chi Ye that day.]
[Inserting a flashback: Lin Wan looked at Chi Ye and chuckled. ‘I’m different from you rich playboys who only know how to eat, drink, and have fun. I’m a person with pursuits; I talk about art. Also, giving roses is really tacky. It shows a complete lack of taste.’]
[I only joined halfway. Why did Chi Ye confess to her in the first place?]
I stared intently at the Danmaku.
I wanted to know the truth too.
But I was already being ushered into the banquet hall by the crowd.
