Chapter 1
The male lead, Zhou Fanjun, turned green.
The students watching let out delighted cries. Someone even pulled out a bag of sunflower seeds and started snacking on the spot.
As for me, a simple country girl, I slapped both thighs and bawled at the top of my lungs, “I want someone in charge! I’m here to go to school! Who says he can buy me? I demand an explanation! You’d better give me an explanation!”
Our homeroom teacher came running at the commotion. One look at the scene, and she hurriedly hauled me off the floor.
“Yu Taozi, what on earth are you doing?”
I immediately pointed at Zhou Fanjun and shouted, “Teacher, he offered me a hundred thousand a month to be his mistress!”
The cash he had thrown down was still scattered over the floor. With both witnesses and evidence present, there was no denying it.
But as the male lead of this world, Zhou Fanjun naturally came with the premium package.
His family had money and influence. Even the school administrators had to show him some respect, so why would he take a young homeroom teacher fresh out of college seriously?
He cleared his throat and put on a careless expression. “Teacher, I was just joking around with a classmate. That’s not against the law, is it?”
Our teacher looked at him and tried to smooth things over. “This is a school. If you bring this much cash and lose it, who’s going to be responsible? Put it away. All right, Yu Taozi, go back to class. The bell is about to ring.”
The comments appeared again.
[Huh? Why did the plot change? The supporting girl is supposed to see the money and say yes, then make the male lead take her out to eat. The female lead sees them and bursts into tears, which advances their romance!]
[Exactly! The supporting girl pesters him into treating her to a restaurant that costs thirteen hundred per person, then throws a humiliating tantrum. I remember it so clearly.]
The instant the comments vanished, Zhou Fanjun bent down to collect the money. In a cocky drawl, he said, “All right, Yu Taozi, it was only a joke. Don’t be mad. How about I buy you dinner to make up for it?”
He was speaking to me, but his eyes were fixed on the female lead, Yao Yao, not far away. She was the daughter of his family’s housekeeper—one half of a schoolyard Pride and Prejudice romance, the kind full of red eyes, hands planted on hips, and life-or-death devotion.
Yao Yao held a stack of workbooks in her arms. Her face showed nothing, but her eyes were already red and brimming with tears, full of heartbreak. She looked thoroughly pitiful.
Zhou Fanjun’s mouth tightened, the veins rising on the back of his hand, as if he wanted to rush over and force a kiss on her right then and there.
All at once, the atmosphere became intensely romantic.
I took a deep breath, slapped my thighs again, and wailed, “My gran taught me never to freeload off anybody! Besides, my family isn’t so poor we need you to feed me! What are you getting at? You look down on country folk, don’t you? Damn your daddy! What gives you the right to look down on us?”
Zhou Fanjun: “…”
Yao Yao: “…”
