I used to be a regular at bars.
Most of the time, Ji Weili brought me along. He drank; I drove. On the way home, we did every shameless thing imaginable in his aggressively masculine Hummer.
Pushing the memories aside, I searched for Meng Chongyu’s private room.
A hand suddenly caught my arm.
“Did you come all this way to find me?”
I looked up. Of all people, Ji Weili stood before me.
“You refused to see me earlier, yet now you’ve rushed here. Playing hard to get?”
“I’m looking for my boyfriend.”
Avoiding his burning gaze, I turned to leave. His grip tightened, and he hauled me into a stall in the men’s room.
“Ji Weili!”
“Louder. Call everyone in.”
I glared at him.
His thumb brushed my lips. “Is this where he kissed you today?”
“That’s none of your business. Let go!”
“My little kitten has learned to show her claws. Divorce has changed you.” He gave a mocking laugh. “Break up with him.”
“Why?”
“Huanhuan, you know I hate other people touching what belongs to me.”
His fingers traced my cheek.
“There is a limit to how far you can take a tantrum. Stop dancing on my last nerve.”
Before I could answer, he continued, “I agreed to the divorce because it was what you wanted. That did not mean you were free of me. I gave you too much freedom this past year, and you forgot whom you belong to.”
Ji Weili was overbearing, powerful, and accustomed to looking down on everyone else. If he wished, he could erase every effort I had made in both my career and my life.
But why should he have that right?
How could the man who betrayed our marriage say such things without shame?
“You already have Sun Jieru. Isn’t that enough?”
At her name, disgust creased his brow. “I told you, there’s nothing between us.”
“Nothing? Pictures of you kissing were in every paper!”
“Yes. It was only a kiss. Did you really need to throw such a fit?”
There was no reasoning with him.
What a fucking bastard.
I wrenched against his hold.
Then a man’s voice came from outside.
“Uncle, are you done yet?”
Every muscle in my body locked.
Meng Chongyu?
Ji Weili started to open the door. I grabbed him and dragged him back.
He arched a brow. I avoided his suddenly piercing gaze.
He stayed where he was. “What is it?”
On the other side of the partition, Chongyu sounded impatient. “I’m leaving. Lend me your driver.”
“So early?”
“Yeah.”
Ji Weili called the driver. Only then did Chongyu leave.
As he walked away, he whistled and called back, “Still going strong at your age. Have fun.”
I looked up and met Ji Weili’s thoughtful stare.
“Do you know Chongyu?”
“No.”
“Then why hide from him?”
“A man and woman alone in a toilet stall? You may have no shame, Young Master Ji, but I do.”
I kicked the door open and left. This time, he did not stop me.
