chapter 2
# chapter 2
The moment we got home, Meng Chongyu pounced.
He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me hungrily.
*I don’t like him,* he typed.
“Who?”
*Your ex-husband.*
“Oh.”
I leaned close, brushing my lips over the rim of his ear. “What a coincidence. Neither do I.”
He lifted me with one arm and tossed me onto the bed. I gasped and caught hold of his neck.
The corner of his mouth rose in a silent, triumphant smile.
I remembered what his roommate had asked that afternoon.
*What’s it like hooking up with your aunt?*
And Chongyu had said, *It’s fine.*
For me, though, sleeping with my ex-husband’s eldest nephew felt absolutely fucking fantastic.
Ji Weili had been wild too, once. But his was the madness of a man accustomed to power. He only took; my pleasure never mattered.
Meng Chongyu was different. I knew he was trying to please me, and after learning who he really was, that knowledge became intoxicating.
Just as he grew impatient to begin, the doorbell rang.
*Ignore it.*
The bell soon gave way to my ringing phone.
“It might be important.” I patted Chongyu’s head and reached for it with one hand.
“Open the door,” Ji Weili said.
“I’m not home.”
“I can see your car. Open the door.”
I paused. “This isn’t a good time.”
I heard the click of a lighter on the other end. “You’re with that man?”
“We’re divorced. It’s none of your business.”
“Then let’s remarry.”
The words seemed to startle even him.
For several seconds, neither of us spoke. Only the faint hiss of the connection passed between us.
I broke the silence. “You’re drunk. Have your assistant take you home.”
“Open the door first.”
“I told you, it isn’t convenient.”
He gave a cold laugh. “Lin Qinhuan, you’ve grown bold.”
Then, as though remembering something, he scoffed. “No, I forgot. You kissed me when I was drunk, then played the fool and proposed to me. You’ve always been bold.”
The call ended.
I sat there trapped in his words.
I really had loved Ji Weili once.
I first met him just after I was accepted into university. Full of reckless courage, I marched into his company hoping to meet the benefactor who had funded my education.
Falling for him had seemed inevitable.
I never dreamed I would one day marry him. After the wedding, I lived inside a pink bubble of my own making, convinced that my love alone could sustain a relationship meant for two.
Then Sun Jieru appeared and shattered the dream.
*Qinhuan?*
A hand slid around me from behind. I turned and found Meng Chongyu standing there.
I suddenly wondered what he would do if he knew another woman was the real reason Ji Weili and I had divorced.
Would he pretend to be mute and seduce Sun Jieru too?
The mute routine was getting old. Perhaps he could pretend to be lame next time.
The thought made me laugh. I patted his cheek.
“I’m not in the mood anymore. Another day.”
I rose and pulled on my robe, never noticing the increasingly complicated look on his face.
