chapter 120
Cat ears were soft, hot, and twitching all over the place.
Bosi had only stroked them twice before his hand came up empty.
The Appearance duration had expired.
He drew his hand back.
There was a single silver-white cat hair lying in his palm.
It stood out starkly against the pitch-black glove.
“Lu Li, you’re shedding.”
He had proof right here.
Lu Li had already fallen asleep. He found Bosi’s voice noisy and folded the pillow over his head.
The culprit chose to escape responsibility by sleeping.
Bosi could only spend the whole night holding that cat hair, then take it back to the Palace in the daytime.
He stood in front of the cabinet and pondered for a moment.
Then he pulled off his gloves altogether, wrapped the cat hair in them, and put the bundle into the empty compartment right beside his Heart.
There had originally been a vase there, but the vase had later been put to use.
Bosi had just shut the cabinet door when the Horned Evil God walked in hugging a stack of files. “King, Necromancer Game has submitted some complaints to you.”
“There’s one Live Stream Room that had no video or audio for the entire Game Night, and we’ve confirmed it’s unrelated to any system malfunction.”
The Horned Evil God set the files on the desk. “The Audience also complained that the Streamer in that room isn’t human and is suspected of cheating.”
Bosi casually pushed both folders aside. “They have time to dig into some tiny issue in a Streamer’s room, but no time to fix the big bugs in the Game Instances?”
“A Streamer says in-game that he isn’t human, and they just take it at face value? The Audience really is easily led.” Bosi was ruthlessly impartial. “Every suspicion needs evidence to back it up. Tell Fenny to investigate Lu… this Streamer’s Original World. Make it thorough.”
“And one more thing.”
The Horned Evil God was diligently taking notes, waiting for the King’s next words. He waited a long time, then finally looked up in confusion. “Yes, your Majesty?”
Bosi’s voice was very low. “Figure out a way to plant some flowers in the Underworld.”
“Which kind of flower do you mean? Bone Flower, Eyeball Flower, or…?”
“Flowers from the human world.”
The Horned Evil God’s pen scratched rapidly across the page, then suddenly froze, the tip bleeding a huge black blot into the paper.
Something even more outrageous than the last flower hunt had appeared!
Planting flowers in the Underworld… where nothing living could grow…?
–
The Evil Gods had been notified of a sudden meeting. Resentful, they clustered together, waiting for the Horned Evil God to arrive.
“Why are we having so many meetings lately?”
“Can we move the meeting reminders earlier? One meeting eats up an entire afternoon. I still have work to finish!”
“Has anyone here been drawn out and bound with a Wristband by a human Player from the Necromancer Game recently?”
“Don’t all look at me! That last video Fenny posted showed everything clearly. I might have been drawn out, but I shook off that overconfident human right away! I’m clean!”
“I heard there’s a newcomer in Necromancer Game who drew an Evil God with the Resurrection ability. He’s sitting at number one on the Bug Instance clear leaderboard, already cleared two in a row. Anyone who goes into his Live Stream Room to invest Spirit Money only profits, never loses-and we’re talking Double Points, even quadruple returns. I’m actually tempted to tip him, but all our accounts are under our real names. Way too conspicuous.”
“I know that Player. Several of my best employees have gone crazy for his streams. They sneak over to ask me whether the Evil God he summoned is me, saying that ability is just like mine! Ridiculous! Would I be controlled by some utterly ordinary human?”
“Hahahaha. If it’s not any of us, who else could he have drawn that’s golden? Ordinary Evil Spirits can’t emit golden light. Don’t tell me he drew the King, hahaha-”
Three seconds of dead silence.
One Evil God rubbed the goosebumps on his Arm.
“Your cold joke is even colder than my cold hard facts.”
“You weren’t scared just saying that out loud?”
“The King said himself he hates Necromancer Game the most. He called it a time-wasting, Spirit-Money-wasting fast-food game.”
“Whether the Player is lying, or one of us is lying, we’ll know after a while! Shame Fenny isn’t here today-he knows the most gossip. We should ask him next time.”
“Fenny’s had so much work lately. Every time I see him, he complains he’s exhausted. Is it because he took all his annual leave at once a while ago, or did the King assign him some special task?”
The Horned Evil God hurried in and cut them off.
“Alright, pull yourselves together! We’ve got a very tough mission!”
“The King wants us to plant flowers in the Underworld!”
An Evil God burst out laughing. “Hah, so you’re doing stand-up now? Trying to liven up the meeting?”
His laughter faded under the Horned Evil God’s icy stare.
“Uh? There’s no way… that’s real, right?”
–
As soon as Lu Li entered Game Day, he heard a racket.
Anan was sprawled on the floor, dozing off. His head swayed left and right against the ground. Pingping pried up his ear flap and bellowed into it with full force:
“Go home!”
Anan woke instantly.
On this floor, natural light spilled in from the left. There was still Black Mist, but it was brighter than the pitch-dark level where the stray animals had been kept.
Lu Li looked toward the place where the light shone in.
It was a massive pane of frosted glass that stretched upward without end.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
The glass shook under a furious pounding, the silhouettes of countless black hands slamming against it. Every hand was clutching a piece of paper.
They could only see vague dark shapes, not who was outside or what was on the papers.
The hands outside hammered at the glass with all their might. There seemed to be voices as well, but they were too far away to make out.
“Looks like it’s morning again.” Anan glanced at the Players. “That noise always starts up in the daytime and only quiets down at night. They pound on the glass every single day. I’m always worried they’ll smash it someday.”
Lu Li asked, “Who’s knocking?”
Anan yawned. “Maybe the ones who just got their flyers and are desperate to enter the world of happiness.”
“Everyone wants the Crown of Happiness too much. I only climbed one floor and I was exhausted and ready to stop. A few days ago, ‘Missing Leg’ passed through my level, paused for a moment, then kept climbing. Never thought he could go that fast on just three legs.”
