I turned around to find that my mother had already stood up.

Wearing her hospital gown, she stretched lazily.

She walked over to me and cupped my face with both hands, looking me over with a gaze full of doting affection and a hint of guilt.

“Xiao Ran, why are you so thin?”

“Have you suffered a lot all these years?”

Tears blurred my vision.

I couldn’t believe it-my mother had actually woken up.

Suddenly, the sound of hurried footsteps came from behind us.

I whipped my head around just in time to see the manager charging at us, swinging an axe.

Instinctively, I moved to shield my mother.

But she simply reached out a finger and gave a light tap.

In the blink of an eye, the manager was sent flying five meters back. He slammed hard against the wall and slid to the floor, his breath gone.

I looked up in shock.

My mother gave me a gentle smile. “Xiao Ran is so brave, actually trying to protect Mom!”

“Mom is so touched~”

She pulled me into her arms and gave me a tight, affectionate squeeze.

Before I could regain my composure, several familiar faces flew in through the window.

“Boss Chen! You really are here!”

“Waaaah, did Boss Chen run into some trouble? Why else haven’t you been online for two days?”

“Wait a second… who are you?”

The eyeballs on Crow’s body swiveled rapidly, sizing my mother up.

“Your scent is very similar to a BOSS, but why can’t I see your level?”

My mother smiled slightly. “Long time no see, Little Crow.”

“Do your eyeballs still fall out?”

Crow froze for a moment, then began to flap its wings excitedly.

Eyeballs clattered to the floor in a heap.

My mother rubbed her chin. “Looks like I’ll have to give you some new glue.”

A loud *clatter* came from outside the door.

Sister Ju’s voice drifted in. “Boss Chen, I’m here to save you-”

The moment she entered and saw my mother, her voice cut off abruptly.

“…Sister Ah Ning?”

Sister Ju took two trembling steps forward, her voice shaking.

Then, she let out a loud wail and threw her arms around my mother’s waist.

“Sister Ah Ning, I’ve been looking for you for so long, waaaah! Why did you never show up!”
