Chapter 10

I jerked my head up.

How did they know?!

The lead player smirked. “Don’t think you’re the only one who can make friends with NPCs.”

“Did it never occur to you that we could bribe an NPC?”

“We heard you killed Brother Liu, the guy on the Bonus Ranking.”

“You should know the rules of the game. When you kill a player, their rewards become yours.”

“I imagine Brother Liu’s thirty-eight million in prize money has already found its way into your hands, hasn’t it?”

I looked at them warily. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Brother Liu was killed by the BOSS. I didn’t lift a finger the entire time.”

The man sneered.

“You think I’m going to believe that?”

“Killing Brother Liu nets that much prize money-would you really be willing to let the BOSS do the honors?”

“Not to mention, you have a comatose mother.”

“To be honest, my people have already arrived at your mother’s bedside.”

“If you’re still unwilling to hand over the money, then… I’ll just have to have them pull the plug on her ventilator.”

Hearing this, I immediately logged off.

Returning to reality, I withdrew all the money from my card and rushed to the hospital.

Sure enough, three men were surrounding my mother’s bed.

They were clutching the breathing tubes, giving me a threatening smile.

My voice trembled as I held out all the cash I had. “This is all the money I have.”

“I only went into the game to work! Brother Liu’s prize money really didn’t end up with me!”

The leader grew agitated. “Thirty thousand? Are you trying to tip a beggar?”

I pleaded desperately.

They chose not to let me off.

In one swift motion, the three of them ripped out the breathing tubes and pulled the plug on the ventilator.

I screamed and lunged forward, but they held me back.

“This is what happens when you lie to us!”

I struggled with all my might.

In the next second, I saw my mother’s eyelashes flicker.

Immediately after, the sky outside quickly turned a vivid red, and a burst of the Weird “tick-tock, tick-tock” sound echoed through the heavens.

The three men froze and exchanged looks.

One of them ran to the window and looked up at the sky.

A moment later, he collapsed to the floor, his eyes vacant.

It was as if his soul had been sucked right out of him.
