Chapter 2
Chapter 2
The horror variety show turned into a paranormal one.
The ghost was so realistic that the guests screamed and scattered in panic.
Bai Xiaocha was the only one staying calm. “Why are you screaming? Cowards.”
She pulled out a stack of talismans and slapped them on in rapid succession.
The ghost froze in place.
The guests stared in shock. “Those talismans actually work?”
Bai Xiaocha looked unbearably pleased with herself. “They were given to me by Brother Qingning. Of course they work.”
“Daoist Qingning? He’s amazing!”
“I heard a newly crowned Best Actress tried to ask Daoist Qingning for help and couldn’t even catch a glimpse of a single hair on his head. You can’t hire him even if you have money.”
Someone asked, “Xiaocha, do you have enough talismans?”
Bai Xiaocha patted her pocket. “Brother Qingning gave me tons. I kept telling him I didn’t want them, but he insisted on stuffing more into my hands.”
“Wow, he totally dotes on you.”
I frowned.
Qingning was Qian Yu’s Daoist name.
Qian Yu was my eldest nephew.
Had that brat’s talisman-drawing gotten worse? Even a dog paw dipped in paint could do better than this.
Could they be fake…?
Bai Xiaocha was basking in the praise when the ghost suddenly moved its neck.
It ripped off the yellow paper with brute force and lunged at us viciously.
“Ahhh! Xiaocha, your talismans don’t work!”
“W-why are you panicking? This has to be someone in costume! Chen Yu, rip its mask off.”
She talked a big game, but left the dirty work to someone else.
Chen Yu was her little lackey. Reluctantly, she reached out, but before she could even touch the ghost, half her arm was bitten off.
Her scream pierced our eardrums.
This time, even Bai Xiaocha was dumbstruck.
She ran faster than anyone else, wailing as she charged toward the small room ahead.
I was the last one to squeeze up to the doorway, and I heard her say, “There isn’t room for this many people!”
She shoved me back out.
In that instant, the look in everyone’s eyes when they turned to me changed.
There was fear in it, and pity too.
But not a single one of them tried to save me.
Except for Yu Wei.
He was stuck in the back and couldn’t move, his eyes full of urgency.
This was a man standing at the very peak of stardom. His appearance fee alone cost more than all of ours put together.
Bai Xiaocha slammed the door shut and locked it from the inside.
Chen Yu was outside too, crying and begging Bai Xiaocha to let her in.
Of course Bai Xiaocha ignored her.
I sighed and said to Chen Yu, “Don’t waste your breath.”
But she looked behind me in horror. “The ghost…”
“Mm-hmm, I know. It’s behind me.”
I gave her an easy smile.
Right in front of Chen Yu’s stunned eyes, I reached back and grabbed that thing by the head.
“You little bastard. Look me in the eye.”
I put some force into it.
Crushed.
One smooth motion.
Chen Yu was completely dumbfounded.
What I didn’t know at that moment was that tens of millions of viewers in front of their screens were just as dumbfounded.
