Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Xiao Yu brought me back to the palace.
“Who sent you?”
He looked very wary of me.
Which made sense. There were eight guards between him and me, and every single one of them looked ready to draw their blades.
I thought about it. “Perhaps… do you believe in matches made in heaven?”
The moment the words left my mouth, a sword was pressed against the side of my neck.
“How dare you flirt with His Highness?” one of Xiao Yu’s men snapped.
Xiao Yu himself was perfectly calm. He raised a hand to stop them, studied me, and frowned slightly.
“Are you one of Xiao Lin’s people?”
I shook my head. “No.”
“Are you one of Xiao Jin’s people?”
I scratched my head. “Who’s Little Jin?”
Xiao Yu lowered his eyes a little, as if lost in thought.
A moment later, he looked up again, his brow smoothing out.
“Forget it. I don’t really care. Hand over the whereabouts of the Dragon Throne, and I’ll let you go.”
Now that was the right person to ask.
Very carefully, I pinched the blade between two fingers and hesitantly looked toward Xiao Yu.
“If I told you that I am the Dragon Throne, would you believe me?”
“I would.” He leaned forward and lifted a brow. “Turn back, and I’ll believe you.”
I froze.
Tentatively, I asked in my mind, “System, can I still turn back?”
The System said, “Do you ever think before you speak? What am I, some Super Transformy-Transform? Chair one minute, human the next… Besides, wouldn’t everyone think the Dragon Throne had turned into a demon?”
Xiao Yu lowered his head and sized me up. “Go on. Transform.”
I smiled, just a little awkwardly.
“What I meant was, my name is Dragon Throne… Yi. My name is Long Yiyi.”
Xiao Yu tugged at the corner of his mouth, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes.
“Your martial arts are very strong.”
“I don’t know martial arts.”
“You caught a flying arrow with your bare hands, and you’re telling me you don’t know martial arts?”
“Uh… you might not believe this, but I have a one hundred percent success rate at defending.”
“…”
For reasons unknown, he still kept me by his side.
Every day, I followed Xiao Yu’s schedule and served him. I woke early, ate little, slept late, and spent my time either bringing him tea and water or grinding ink and handing him brushes.
At night, when Xiao Yu was going to bed, he still wouldn’t let me leave.
“What else do you want from me? I already worked during the day. There’s no reason I should have to work at night too, right?”
I folded my arms over my chest and looked at him warily.
Xiao Yu stuffed a scroll into my arms.
“You’re overthinking it. I only like your voice.”
So I had to read to him until he fell asleep.
But Xiao Yu slept very uneasily. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, he would grab my hand, eyes tightly shut, and call out for his older sister, jolting me awake when I had already started dozing off.
I had no idea who his sister was.
I hurriedly wiped away my drool, picked up the book, and continued reading.
I already regretted turning into a human.
Seriously. Being a beast of burden was worse than being the Dragon Throne.
At least the Dragon Throne had simple duties and short working hours.
