Chapter 3
Chapter 3
How could a monster possibly have a mother?
The corner of my lips curled up slightly. This human player was truly audacious, daring to trifle with a monster.
The last insect that dared offend me didn’t even leave a soul behind.
I raised my hand and, lightning-fast, seized her throat. My palm tightened as I watched her reaction through the semi-transparent veil.
This woman had some skill; I looked forward to seeing her struggle, to see what tricks she could pull.
But unexpectedly, she didn’t struggle. Her face flushed red from difficulty breathing, tears welling in her eyes. She looked at me with sorrow and an emotion I couldn’t comprehend.
Her tears fell onto the back of my pale, ghostly hand, warm.
This woman seemed willing to die at my hands.
Strange.
The taste of her soul turned unappealing to me, not bloody enough.
Before she passed out, I released her. She knelt on the ground, coughing. I watched her silently for a moment.
“Boring.”
I opened my mouth and left these words.
My voice was high-pitched and thin; I didn’t know when it had become like this, but all the insects who had heard it had died.
Yang Xi was the first insect to court death before me and not die, at least for now.
The barrier she created couldn’t stop me at all.
From the shadows, I watched as she recovered and then called out “Yueyue” in the wedding hall. When no response came, she cried softly.
After a while, she wiped away her tears and walked out to reunite with her teammates.
Her teammates had assumed she was dead, and were feeling down. Suddenly, they saw a lonely figure approaching. At first, they thought it was a ghost from this place and grew wary, but when they got closer, they saw it was Yang Xi.
“Sister Xi, thank goodness you’re alive!” A girl rushed forward and hugged her.
Warm. Alive.
The others approached to check on Yang Xi. She had a clear choke mark on her neck, and those who wanted to ask hesitated.
“Sister Xi, did the Ghost Bride let you go? Or did you escape?”
“Zhao Qian’an, what nonsense are you spouting? Sister Xi just saved you!” Glasses Guy’s words were barely out before the girl hugging Yang Xi retorted.
They were a four-person team.
Glasses Guy, Zhao Qian’an.
The student, Su Siqiong.
And there was a white-haired guy named Li Muxing.
White Hair said, “Sister Xi, what happened just now? Why did you say the Ghost Bride was your…”
The word “daughter” was a forbidden zone for Yang Xi.
They all knew Sister Xi had lost a daughter, but they were inside an instance now. How could the instance’s boss possibly be her daughter?
Yang Xi was lost in thought. After a moment, she finally spoke:
“After my daughter died, I personally took her to the crematorium. But before the cremation, I wanted to see her one last time. Her body, however, vanished without a trace.”
“The surveillance footage showed nothing unusual, and the crematorium staff’s procedures were normal. Yet she simply disappeared,” Yang Xi paused. “Since we can be pulled into this strange world, why couldn’t my daughter have been pulled into an instance to be an NPC?”
She was growing obsessed.
The teammates around her were actually somewhat convinced.
Indeed, this world was already insane enough. What harm would a little more insanity do?
“Sister Xi, what do you plan to do now?” Glasses Guy spoke again. “Does she… still remember you?”
At this question, Yang Xi fell silent again.
She suddenly said, “From now on, you three form a team to find clues to clear the instance. If danger comes, abandon me if necessary.”
“Sister Xi?”
“I’m going to bring her out,” Yang Xi said.
