Chapter 2

I looked at the man in front of me warily. “President Gu? What are you doing here?”

“Didn’t I already tell you? I’ve decided to give that order to another company.”

“Are you seriously chasing business all the way out here?”

This man’s name was Gu Yunzhi. He was a supplier our company had recently been negotiating with for a project.

Originally, I had planned to give the order to his company.

Because he was just that good-looking. A fortune-teller had said my romance star would stir this year, and wow, did my heart stir.

But when I asked him out for dinner after work, he actually turned me down! Said something had come up at home and he had to go back early.

It was my first time asking someone out. Did I not need to save face?

I heard he’d only just returned from abroad and was starting his own business. His company was still in its early stages.

Excellent. Then I would let him experience the harshness of society.

And so, naturally, he did not get that order.

Seeing me say that now, Gu Yunzhi looked at me somewhat helplessly. “President Shen, you’ve misunderstood.”

“If your company chose not to work with us, then naturally your company had its reasons. I’m not the kind of person who clings and pesters.”

“I’m here with my dad to visit relatives back in his hometown.”

I froze, then looked him up and down. He was dressed more or less like me. Still suspicious, I asked, “Visiting relatives? Who are your relatives? How come I’ve never seen you before?”

Gu Yunzhi pointed to a household not far from my grandfather’s place and said, “The Su Family. My maternal grandparents.”

“My mom passed away early. My grandparents and my two uncles all think it was because my dad only cared about making money and didn’t take care of my mom or me that she died, so they never let my dad come over for New Year’s visits.”

A woman with long hair and an especially gentle smile immediately flashed through my mind.

“Oh, you’re Aunt Suqing’s son. Then your grandparents and your two uncles really loved your mom.”

Then Gu Yunzhi added, “This year, my two cousins graduated and couldn’t find jobs, so they told my dad to come back for a visit…”

Me: “I take back what I just said!”

Our instincts told us that both of us had stories.

In each other’s eyes, we saw the blazing fire of gossip, and we decided to have a deeper exchange.

To avoid being seen, we slipped together into the little woods in the village.

Once we started talking, we discovered that our experiences were surprisingly similar.

The only difference was that I was helping my dad hide our wealth.

His dad, on the other hand, had him hide his competence.
