“The Looks Are Justice Team earned a total of 676000 Travel Coins in [Divine Bride]. Remaining balance: 719000 Travel Coins.”
“Player Lin Zhu’s item, Intelligent Doll, has been upgraded successfully. Please discover its functions for yourself.”
“Settlement complete. Return point for the Looks Are Justice Team: White Wolf Grand Hotel.”
“Teleporting…”
Both the rewards and the way they were calculated differed from previous settlements, leaving Cheng Miao a little puzzled.
When the teleportation ended, an endless expanse of grassland spread before them. A few pure white sheep dotted the green, while horses grazed with their tails swishing lazily.
A breeze swept through, sending waves rolling across the sea of grass and revealing a mirrorlike blue lake in the distance.
The sky was a dazzlingly clear blue, with clusters of thick white clouds stretching toward the horizon.
Cheng Miao drew in a deep breath of the grassland’s fresh scent. Her whole body and mind felt freer.
“Miss, are you headed to White Wolf Grand Hotel?” A snow-white horse approached, followed by several sturdy horses.
Cheng Miao nodded and took her check-in voucher from her pocket. After examining it and finding everything in order, the white horse invited them to mount.
Fresh out of an instance riddled with traps, they urged their horses into a gallop for a while before easing into a leisurely pace.
“The settlement for this instance was strange,” Cheng Miao told Qiudong, who was in front of her.
For some reason, she felt that he, too, had relaxed considerably since leaving the instance.
Qiudong lay lazily against the horse’s mane, the tip of his tail curling into an arc. “Mm. It really was a special instance. I’ll explain everything once we get to the Grand Hotel.”
White Wolf Grand Hotel consisted of structures resembling Mongolian yurts, each raised a little off the ground on supports.
This gave guests a more expansive view and accommodated those who did not like living directly on the grass.
Its room rates were about the same as Peacock Grand Hotel’s. After paying 60000 Travel Coins for a ten-day stay, they went to their room.
White Wolf Grand Hotel favored a simple, spacious style. Their accommodations were in an enormous yurt. Inside was a huge living room, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a partially open kitchen.
All the rooms had large floor-to-ceiling glass windows, offering unobstructed, 360-degree views of the beautiful, sweeping grassland.
At night, a single touch activated the blackout setting, keeping the grassland’s early morning sunlight out of the entire room.
White Wolf Grand Hotel had no swimming pool, but every luxury room had its own stretch of lawn. Guests could not enter another guest’s lawn without an invitation.
Their yurt faced a small lake surrounded by grass. Not far from the lake was a hot spring pool set flush with the ground.
Soaking here would feel like swimming through the grassland and the lake. With clouds and stars spread overhead as they enjoyed the hot spring, it was clear that Baizhou was a wolf who knew how to enjoy life.
Qiudong sat on Cheng Miao’s shoulder. He knew that staying at different Grand Hotels was her favorite thing. Seeing her eyes light up brought a hint of amusement to his deep blue gaze.
“The grassland is even prettier under the snow. You can take a look once you’ve rested.”
This instance had put everyone through the wringer. Every one of them had experienced what it was like to be seriously ill.
Although their bodies were no longer suffering, they were still mentally exhausted.
Without needing to discuss it, they all showered and went to bed.
Cheng Miao looked at Qiudong sleeping beside her, hesitating over what to say.
Qiudong stretched his body out long and twisted his head toward her as though he had no bones. “What’s wrong? Something you want to say?”
Cheng Miao murmured an awkward “Mm,” then said quietly, “You don’t have to put yourself in danger to come after me. I can protect myself.”
Qiudong was silent for a moment. “Any of the others would have done the same. Besides, Qin Musong and the others trusted me to go with you. I couldn’t possibly let you face danger alone.”
So that was it.
The little knot of awkwardness in Cheng Miao’s heart disappeared. He had a point.
Watching her drift into sleep without a care, Qiudong stood, turned around twice, and lay down again.
He would wait a little longer. Instances were extraordinarily dangerous. He should avoid adding an emotional burden if he could.
Distraction was the last thing anyone needed in an instance. He and Cheng Miao would have plenty of time later. He was in no hurry.
They slept for a full day and night. When Cheng Miao got up and switched the blackout setting to daytime mode, she found bright sunshine outside.
Thanks to the special technology in the glass, the yurt neither felt stuffy and hot nor let in sunlight so dazzling that they could not keep their eyes open.
After washing up, Cheng Miao scooped up Qiudong and went out to get something to eat.
The others had just woken too. They discussed what to eat, then waited for the server to deliver it.
Only then did Lin Zhu remember to take Mini Lin out of his Space Backpack. The upgrade from this instance had turned Mini Lin into an Intelligent Doll, and everyone was curious.
The moment he emerged, Cheng Miao noticed how much more expressive he was.
The doll had certainly looked very human before, but Mini Lin had merely been a little doll that could move and understand Lin Zhu’s commands.
Now, though, Cheng Miao was certain she had seen him frown.
Then everyone watched his little mouth form an O before he let out a breath.
“Whew! Stuffy!”
Everyone was stunned!
Where had that clear little boy’s voice come from?
Mini Lin flexed his arms and legs, then turned to Lin Zhu. “Daddy.”
Lin Zhu was so startled that even his little topknot quivered. “No! Don’t call me that! I’m not your daddy!”
Mini Lin could speak now, but he knew few words. There was still more to develop.
As he clambered up Lin Zhu with both hands and feet, calling “Daddy!”, everyone struggled to hold back their laughter.
“The tablet in the room should have early-learning programs,” Cheng Miao reminded Lin Zhu with a smile. She did not like children, but the little doll really was cute.
“Oh, right!”
Lin Zhu scooped Mini Lin up and shut the doll in his room to begin his education.
Knock, knock, knock.
“Your breakfast is here!”
