Chapter 14
Chapter 14
It was raining.
The dense, late-winter drizzle drifted in through the window that hadn’t been shut tight, carrying a bone-chilling cold.
“Are you planning to get Ranran cured and then turn yourself in?
“Four hundred thousand for the treatment, and the remaining four hundred thousand left for her future?”
Gu Cong had heard everything, as expected.
His voice was flat, without any ups or downs.
But for some reason, I could sense… he was furious.
I pursed my lips.
I didn’t defend myself.
I couldn’t.
“You planned this long ago, didn’t you? From the moment I told you there was a chance for surgery.”
My prolonged silence finally exhausted Gu Cong’s patience. He let out a soft, mocking sneer, easily waking the voice-activated light above us once more.
“An Nian, if I had known this might be the outcome, I never would have agreed to perform this surgery for you.”
I looked up abruptly.
I had been so focused on the money that I only just realized-Gu Cong had the absolute right to refuse the surgery.
Especially after he had stumbled upon the truth.
As the youngest and most promising doctor in the Second Hospital, there was no reason for him to take on a high-risk surgery funded by money of such dubious origin.
“I’m sorry…” I said, my voice dry.
“Ranran is my only daughter.
“I know what I’m doing is wrong, but I really… I really can’t lose her.”
Gu Cong remained expressionless, saying nothing.
Panic surged through me. I kept my voice low, practically pleading.
“If this ever comes to light, I promise I won’t involve you, okay?”
Gu Cong didn’t hesitate, enunciating every word: “No.”
My eyes reddened instantly.
What was I going to do?
Ranran finally had a chance to recover…
I didn’t dare let my emotions spiral, my mind racing to find any other way to fix this.
However, before I could speak again, Gu Cong suddenly added another sentence.
“Take a look at the medical card.”
I didn’t understand what he meant at first.
Dazed, I opened the app on my phone-
The balance on the medical card showed 500,000 yuan.
“Why didn’t you come to me? We were classmates, after all.”
The overhead light fell across Gu Cong’s eyelashes, casting a shadow over the emotions in his eyes.
He seemed like he wanted to say something else, but in the end, he only let out a sigh.
“Use the money for Ranran’s surgery first. Don’t let it weigh on you.”

Eight Years After I Broke His Heart, I Begged Him to Save My Child
The year I graduated from high school, I rejected Gu Cong’s confession in front of the entire school.
I told him I already had a boyfriend.
He nodded politely and turned to...
