Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Mrs. Lu took Lu Hao to a private hospital, and they didn’t show up again.
Instead, Lu Ji started coming to the Second Hospital frequently to play with Ranran.
At first, I didn’t really want Ranran to have contact with anyone from the Lu Family.
However, Ranran really enjoyed playing with him.
Due to her health and personality, Ranran hadn’t had many friends since she was little; she had barely even spoken to children her own age.
Her interests were also a bit different from other kids.
She loved looking at picture books, giving names to every object she saw, and then making up stories for them.
She spoke a bit slowly, and other children didn’t have the patience to listen.
But Lu Ji…
He would rest his chin in his hands and listen to her talk quietly all afternoon.
He would remember the names Ranran gave to every single grape.
He would write blessings with her for her pair of bunny slippers…
Now, what Ranran looked forward to most every day was Lu Ji’s arrival.
When Dr. Zhao found out, he pretended to be jealous, saying that Ranran didn’t want to play with him anymore now that she had a new friend.
Ranran gave an embarrassed smile and comforted him by saying that out of all the adults in the hospital, she liked him, Gu Cong, and Dr. Qin the most.
“‘The most,’ and yet there are so many of us!”
Dr. Zhao was dissatisfied.
“No way, you can only pick one.
“Or, between Brother Gu and Brother Zhao, who does Ranran like more?”
Gu Cong happened to come in for rounds just then.
He was Ranran’s attending physician and the one who had the most contact with her on a daily basis.
Although he wasn’t as good at teasing children as Dr. Zhao, he was always very patient when speaking to Ranran. What he said always sounded very sensible, and Ranran trusted him deeply.
After agonizing over it for a long time, Ranran finally spoke three words honestly: “Brother Gu.”
“How old are you? How can you have the nerve to let Ranran call you ‘brother’?”
Gu Cong gave a light chuckle and stepped forward.
He ruffled Ranran’s hair.
“It’s Uncle Gu. You can’t call me ‘brother.'”
Dr. Zhao reacted quickly, his eyes widening. “Well played, Dr. Gu. You’re taking advantage of me!”
Gu Cong ignored him.
He ordered a few physical exam items for Ranran and gave me a few more instructions.
I noted them down carefully.
“Alright, thank you, Dr. Gu.”
Dr. Zhao suddenly sighed casually.
“You two are way too formal with each other.
“If I didn’t know the inside story, I really wouldn’t be able to tell that you two were high school classmates.”
…
My heart skipped a beat.
I instinctively looked at Gu Cong.
Sensing my gaze, Gu Cong looked at me calmly.
After half a second, he looked away indifferently, neither surprised nor denying it.
…
So he had known all along…
“By the way, someone took a photo of you a couple of days ago and posted it online. It went viral again, and everyone’s asking which hospital you’re at.
“Someone in the comments said they were an alum of yours. They said that when you graduated high school, the story of your confession being rejected was known by the whole school, and it even went viral back then.
“Is what he said true or false? Who was that girl? Why couldn’t I find anything when I searched online?”
Dr. Zhao scratched his head.
“Ranran’s mom, have you heard about this?”
“…”

The year I graduated from high school, I rejected Gu Cong’s confession in front of the entire school.
I told him I already had a boyfriend.
He nodded politely and turned to...
