Chapter 11

My plan was to make a feint-throw something out first and draw those two people’s attention.

I patted myself down. My pockets were empty, and everything in my bag was a ritual artifact, so I couldn’t use any of it. Jiang Haoyan happened to be lying right beside me, so while I kept a wary eye on the shadows across from us, I reached over and started feeling around in his pants pocket.

The moment I touched something bulging, Jiang Haoyan let out a muffled groan and grabbed my hand. His voice was low and hoarse, and he even swallowed.

“Qiao Moyu, what are you doing-”

The second he spoke, the two people outside the tent moved. They reached straight for me, their long nails slicing through the tent canvas. I flopped backward, landing on top of Jiang Haoyan, and formed the Five Thunder Art with both hands.

“Five thunders, gather at once! Roaring lightning, swift thunder!”

A flash of lightning streaked past, and those two hands immediately pulled back. I sprang up from Jiang Haoyan with a kip-up, then rolled outside.

Once I lunged out of the tent and looked up, I finally saw what those two people looked like.

One was a man, the other a woman. The man was wearing a shell jacket, his hair a mess, and his face looked like a car crash scene.

I wasn’t exaggerating. It really was a car crash scene. A huge dent had been smashed into his forehead, and one of his eyeballs was bulging out.

The woman wore a sexy black bodycon miniskirt and red high heels. She stood with her knees caved inward, her posture a bit like a zombie on TV.

Their first attack had missed, so they lunged at me again. I rolled aside on the spot, then threw out a fire talisman.

The talisman struck the male corpse dead-on. Firelight flashed over his body, only to vanish again almost instantly, as if the flames had landed on ice and couldn’t burn at all.

I froze for the briefest moment. The female corpse suddenly pounced, raking her claws viciously at my face.

I leaned back, dodging her nails, only for those nails to grow with the wind. They abruptly extended three inches in midair. My body was still airborne, so I twisted my head hard, but her nails still sliced across my neck.

I felt a chill at my throat. When I raised a hand to touch it, there was actually quite a bit of blood.

The sight of me bleeding made those two even more excited.

“Kekekeke-”

The female corpse let out a shrill laugh and brought her nails to her lips, licking the blood off them.

She had only just tasted it when her eyes flew wide open. A miserable scream tore from her throat, and her whole body convulsed violently. Her arms and legs twisted together like a pretzel.

“Heh heh heh-” Now it was my turn to laugh. “You dared to lick Sanqing Blood just like that? Did you watch too many villain movies when you were alive?”

I pulled out my Peach Wood Sword and wiped it across my neck. Hua Yuling happened to arrive from behind right then, and when she saw what I was doing, she was shocked.

“Has the fight already gotten that intense? Even if you can’t beat them, you don’t have to kill yourself!”

The male corpse charged at me again with terrifying speed. I raised my sword and slashed, cutting into his arm. He screamed, and his entire arm was severed at the root.

But in the next second, flesh and blood began slowly surging out from the stump. Before long, a brand-new little arm grew out, its skin pale and tender, five fingers opening and closing in the air.

An adult body with a baby’s arm. No matter how you looked at it, it was grotesque.

“Disgusting. Time to die.”

I charged forward with my sword. Those two had learned how powerful the Peach Wood Sword was and didn’t dare face me head-on again. Their eyes locked on me as they slowly backed away, retreating all the way to the cliff wall. They grabbed the vines there, swayed once, and vanished.

I rubbed my eyes. Something felt wrong.

This was the danxia landform of the northwest; the mountain walls were supposed to be bare rock. I remembered when we came in, there hadn’t been any vegetation covering the surface at all. But now the entire cliff face was densely covered in vines, stretching as far as the eye could see. When the wind blew, they rustled with a loud clatter.

“When did these vines grow here? While we were asleep?”

I walked up to the cliff wall and examined them closely. The vines had thick roots, and after being battered by the northwest wind in the valley for years, their branches and leaves all grew in the same direction. They clearly had the weathered look of something that had been there for a long time. They really didn’t look like they could have grown overnight.

Hua Yuling shook her head.

“These vines have been here for a very long time.”

“Then who moved them here?”

“They didn’t move. We were moved.” Hua Yuling pointed at the ground beneath our feet. “We’re in the deepest part of the valley now.”
