Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Li Shuyu said over the phone that work had been a little busy lately, and he hadn’t been able to find a good time to ask me out for dinner.
He was getting off work early tonight and asked if I was free.
Still sulking, I said coldly, “I’m not.”
He sensed that something was off with my mood.
After a few seconds of silence, he said in a low voice,
“I’m sorry, Miss Jiang.
“You agreed to try dating me, but I didn’t take the initiative to contact you. That was my fault.
“Can we meet again? I’d like to apologize to you in person.”
I wanted to turn him down.
Plenty of boys had chased after me ever since I was little.
I simply couldn’t be bothered with them.
But Li Shuyu was something else.
He’d said he was very satisfied with me and asked me to give him a chance, to try dating him.
Then he’d left me hanging for three days, neither warm nor cold.
And now he came along wanting to apologize and make up.
Hah.
Did he think I was that easy to coax?
I let out a cold snort and said irritably,
“I have a dinner gathering tonight. Come if you want.”
The person on the other end agreed without hesitation.
“Okay. What time? I’ll come pick you up.”
I hung up.
Then I sent him the location of the barbecue place.
After that, I told Qiao Xiang that Li Shuyu would be coming tonight too.
She excitedly sent more than a dozen reaction memes in a row.
[I need to see just how gorgeous this insurance salesman is!]
[He has our beautiful Miss Jiang so distracted she’s been losing at mahjong for three days straight!]
I was furious.
[Qiao Xiang! That’s enough! You’re paying tonight!]
At eight that evening,
Li Shuyu arrived punctually downstairs from my apartment.
My mom rummaged around the house for ages, then packed up a small bag of trash and said she was going downstairs with me.
Of course I knew exactly what she was thinking!
I snatched the trash bag out of her hand.
“Stop making trouble! We don’t even know if this is going anywhere yet! What’s the rush to meet him?”
Before my mom could catch up, I quickly shut the elevator doors.
Under the streetlamp, Li Shuyu stood beside the car door, his head lowered as he looked at the shadows of the trees on the ground.
He wasn’t wearing formal clothes today, just a black jacket.
The zipper was still pulled all the way to the top.
His sharp, slender jaw was hidden in the collar.
I twitched the corner of my mouth.
I really didn’t know why this man always wrapped himself up so tightly.
The first time I met Li Shuyu, I’d even put on light makeup and dressed rather formally.
Today, I’d casually tied my hair into a ponytail and come downstairs in Crocs.
Li Shuyu lifted his head. When he saw me walking over, the faintest smile appeared at the corners of his mouth.
“Miss Jiang.”
His voice was slightly low, and he always called me “Miss Jiang” so politely.
Courteous, yet distant.
I didn’t look at him and only gave a brief hum.
Then I opened the rear door.
And froze on the spot.
On the spacious back seat lay a huge bouquet of pink-and-white roses.
The buds were just about to bloom, still dotted with water droplets.
From behind me came Li Shuyu’s deep, pleasant voice.
“To make amends.”
Li Shuyu opened the passenger door and looked at me quietly.
In his cool, clear eyes, there was a ripple of gentleness.
I pressed down the corners of my mouth.
Still stubborn, I said,
“I’m not even angry. What are you making amends for?”
Li Shuyu’s lips curved slightly.
“I didn’t bring flowers the first time we met. I’m making up for it now.”
